LaVonne Bengson, 87, Minot, formerly of the Esmond area, died Wednesday, December 14, 2022 in a Minot Nursing Home.

LaVonne was born September 2, 1935 on the family farm near Esmond, North Dakota the third of five children to Henry and Clarissa (Karlsbraaten) Reierson.   She was raised near Esmond and graduated from Esmond High School in 1953.   She continued her education at Mayville State College, where she received a standard teaching certificate.

LaVonne was united in marriage to William “Bud” Bengson on September 2, 1956 at Esmond.  They lived at Neche, where they both taught, then moved to Drake, Finley and later Anamoose, where Bud taught prior to moving to Minot in 1973.   Along with raising their three children, she assisted her husband with his crop – hail insurance agency, Great Northwestern Insurance.     Bud died on August 12, 2012.   She had moved into the View in 2018 and most recently had entered Trinity Nursing Home in July of 2022.

She was a longtime dedicated member of St Mark’s Lutheran Church, where she served in making banners for the sanctuary and helped with the planning of many weddings.   She enjoyed gardening, sewing and doing needle point along with visiting on the phone with family and friends.

Her loving family includes, children, Kathleen (Joel) Hansen, Douglas (Patti) Bengson and Melissa (Mike) Larsen, all of Minot; grandchildren, Matthew (Bobbi) Hansen, Meagan (Jordan) Dorsch, Emily & Sophie Bengson, Hayden Schwarz, Charlie & Halle Larsen; great grandchildren: Elijah & Jayla Hansen; Henry, Leo, Gust & Felix Dorsch; sister, Mary Jelsing, Rugby; sister in law, Agnes Halvorson; several nieces, nephews and cousins.

LaVonne was preceded in death by: her parents, husband of nearly 56 years, Bud; her brother, Merton (Virginia) Reierson; sister, Ellen (Basil) Truax; Dorothy (Al) Adam; brothers in law, Dwight Jelsing and Leo Halvorson.

Interment: Rosehill Memorial Park, Minot.

Visitation: Friday, December 16th from 4:00-6:00 p.m. in Thomas Family Funeral Home, Minot.
