Douglas Maynard, 92 of Thief River Falls, MN formerly of Donnybrook, ND, Minot, ND and Mohall, ND passed away peacefully on Tuesday July 26, 2022 with his loving family by his side.

Douglas Ernest Maynard was born May 17, 1930 in Kenmare, ND the son of Ernest and Alice (Johnson) Maynard. He was baptized on January 12, 1945 at the Methodist Church in Mohall, ND. He attended school in Mohall, ND and Donnybrook, ND.

Following school, Douglas worked as a farmer. In his spare time, he worked in the telephone office operating the switchboard, repairing the lines and helping his dad on his mail route.

Douglas entered into service with the United States Army on January 18, 1952 at Ft. Sheridan, IL. He was Honorably Discharged on April 12, 1952 at Camp Roberts, CA.

On October 21, 1952, Douglas was united in marriage to Marlene Lawson at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church in Donnybrook. To this union three children were born, Rita, Ronald and PattiJo. They lived in Donnybrook where Douglas worked as a farmer. He also worked driving water truck in the oil fields and was very proud to learn aircraft mechanic skills through Lockheed Martin. Douglas served as the Fire Chief in Donnybrook in the late 1950’s.

In 1971, Douglas purchased land near Thief River Falls, MN where he set up a small grain farm. He retired from farming in 2006 and the couple returned to live in Minot. Marlene passed away in December of 2009 and Douglas returned to live in Thief River Falls.

Douglas enjoyed spending time with family, tinkering in his shop/garage, playing bingo, visiting casinos, traveling, playing cards, visiting with neighbors, and in his younger days, he enjoyed going hunting.

Survivors include daughters, Rita (Bob) Snell of Grand Rapids, MN and Patti (Jerry) LaCoe of Thief River Falls, MN; grandchildren, Jacob Maynard, Patrick Maynard, Chris Stigen; step-grandson, Jeremy LaCoe; great-grandchildren, Izak, Wyatt & Silas Maynard, Kayden, Lily & Isabella Stigen; and many other relatives and friends.

He is preceded in death by his wife, Marlene; son, Ron in 2010; daughter-in-law, Jackie; parents, Ernest & Alice Maynard; grandparents, George & Margaret Maynard and Peter & Augusta Johnson; and half-sisters, Vivian Johnson and Margaret Griffith.

A service to celebrate the life of Douglas Maynard will be held 11:00 a.m. Friday, August 5, 2022 at Thomas Family Funeral Home in Minot, ND.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, August 4, 2022 from 3:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m. at the Thomas Family Funeral Home.
Interment immediately after the service at Rosehill Memorial Park.
