Odie Thompson

Odie Eugene Thompson, 65, Laporte, MN, passed away in his home on Monday, December 11, 2023, surrounded by his sister-in-law and two brothers.

Odie was born September 1, 1958 in Grants Pass, Oregon to Alta Mae (Carpenter) and Odie Thompson. Odie lived in Weiser, Idaho, with his twin brother, Odell, and twin brothers, Larry and Llyod, and his parents, until his father passed away on February 22, 1970. When Odie was 11 or 12 the family moved to Portland, Oregon where the boys grew up. Odie was a baptized member of the Seventh-day Adventist church.

Odie worked for St. Vincent de Paul from the mid 80’s until 1992. After the death of their mother in 1991, at age 32, Odie and his twin brother Odell moved to Guthrie, Minnesota to live with their brother Jim, his sister-in-law, Gloria and nieces. After moving to Minnesota, Odie worked at the Northern Cass DAC in Walker, Minnesota until he retired in 2010.

Odie enjoyed playing ball. One time he kicked a ball into the tree where it got stuck and it was too high up for Odie to reach with a stick. The ball was stuck all winter until it fell out in the spring and Gloria found it when she was mowing. Odie loved to go to church and pray he would come out of his room and hold Gloria’s hand and pray. If you said ouch! Odie would pray immediately for you to get better. He loved to read his little books and his little Bible and say the Lord’s Prayer.

Odie also enjoyed riding his bike, sitting on the porch, blowing bubbles, playing with toy cars, tractors, and trucks by blowing on their wheels to make them spin and looking through the windows, putting puzzles together, holidays, and watching the airplane flying over the house to Minneapolis.

Odie never once complained about pain or discomfort. He loved life right to the end.
His yesterday was a good day, and his tomorrow will be even better when he opens his eyes and sees Jesus, who he loved so much.

Odie is survived by aunt: June Westfall of Colorado; brothers: Jim (Gloria) Thompson of Minnesota, Odell Thompson of Minnesota, Lloyd (Terry of Minnesota) Thompson of Oregon; many cousins; nieces: Jamie (Jim) Eck of Illinois, Heidi (Richard) Lewis of North Dakota, Tina (Dan) York of North Dakota; great nieces and nephews: Daniel Lewis, Joseph Lewis, Sarah Eck, Joshua Lewis, Daniel Eck, Andrea and Sophia Strange, Christopher and Jesse York; and great-great nephew: Zaybian McLain Eck.

He was preceded in death by his parents: Odie and Mae Thompson and brother: Larry Thompson.

Odie will be laid to rest at the Little Deep Cemetery by Upham, ND in May 2024.

Further arrangements will be posted once finalized.
