Married for 74 years, Bert Michels served in the Army and worked in the oil field his entire life beginning in southern Illinois and moving to ND with the first oil boom of the ’50s. He was the father of 4 sons, one daughter, grandfather to 12 and a great-grandfather and great-great grandfather. To his daughter, he was special, and she was always “daddy’s little girl”. They loved to ride horse together and she’d straddle one of his legs at a time to pull off his boots at the end of the day. Covid claimed him on Dec. 3, 2020; his wife, Ruth, died of a broken heart one week later.
