Jean L. Kottsick passed away peacefully on Sunday, August 21, 2022, at Missouri Slope Care Center in Bismarck. Her funeral will be held on Thursday, August 25 at 11:30 a.m. at the Bismarck Funeral Home. For those unable to attend, the service will be livestreamed on the Bismarck Funeral Home Facebook page. Visitation will take place one hour prior to the service. Burial will be at the ND Veterans Cemetery at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday.
Jean was born July 8, 1927, to George and Johanna (Peters) Lubbers in Bismarck.
She was the youngest of nine children and was raised on a farm northwest of Burnstad, ND. Jean attended school in Burnstad until it closed and finished her last two years in Napoleon. She attended Minot State Teachers College graduating in 1954 with a degree in Elementary Education. She taught school for 30 years with 22 years in the Riverdale School District where she met her husband, Walter. They were married in 1958 at Napoleon. They resided in Riverdale before building their retirement home in Pick City.
Jean was a life member of the American Legion Auxiliary and the VFW. She was the Veterans Affairs Chairman for years and enjoyed working with veterans in the community nursing homes doing favors for the residents. She was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Riverdale, Missouri River Basin Retired Teachers, Lakeshore Jolly Dollies Red Hat Group, and Pick City/Riverdale Weight Club.
Jean enjoyed baking, cooking, flower gardening, reading, crafts, making cards and doing things for others. Jean and Walter also enjoyed traveling in their motor home with family and friends. They went to Alaska and Canada on many fishing trips.
Jean was preceded in death by her husband Walter, her parents, and her siblings John, George, Marvin, Clara, Esther, Viola, DeWayne, Kathryn. She is survived by 15 nieces and nephews.
