Melvin “Cork”

On February 21, 2026, Melvin “Cork” Mehlhoff, 94, of Bismarck, previously Garrison, was called to be with his Lord and Savior.

A Funeral Service will be held at 10:30 AM on Thursday, February 26, 2026, at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Garrison, ND. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service. Burial will be held in the Spring at the Garrison Cemetery.

Melvin H.J. Mehlhoff was born on March 19, 1931, to John and Rosina (Mautz) Mehlhoff, who immigrated from Russian held Ukraine, and settled in Garrison, ND. Cork was the youngest of 11 children, he was raised on the family farm Northeast of Garrison.

Cork worked in construction in his younger years, projects including the Garrison Dam, Snake River Dam, and the Minot Air Force Base. He eventually found his calling in taking over the family farm. He enjoyed the farm life of harvesting grain and raising cattle.

Cork married the love of his life, Olga Yvonne Fix, on September 9, 1956. Together they raised their four sons, Mark, John, Leland, and Michael.

He enjoyed spending time with his family whether it was watching his sons play sports or taking them hunting. He also enjoyed the time he spent with his many friends and his sisters.

Cork will be missed by his wife, Yvonne; daughter-in-law, Shari (Mark); sons, John (Suzanne), Leland “Chip” (Beth), Michael (Melissa); grandchildren, Michael, Jessa, Katherine, Jade, Alyssa, Caroline, and Jenna; great-grandchildren, Faye, Collins, Colin, Charlie, Lawson, Emmett, Owen, Hattie, Madeline, and Ford.

Cork is preceded in death by his oldest son, Mark; his parents, John and Rosina Mehlhoff; three brothers; seven sisters and their spouses.
