Leanne (Engel) Haugen, 83, of Garrison, passed away on August 30, 2025, peacefully with her family by her side.
Leanne was born on March 6, 1942, the daughter of John and Hulda (Metz) Engel. She attended Garrison Public Schools and graduated from Garrison High School in 1960. This beauty attracted many young men, but the one that won her heart was Ronald Haugen and they were married on June 10, 1961.
Together they farmed and ranched near Roseglen, where they raised their three children. Although farming had its ups and downs, she was rewarded by watching her children grow into productive adults. She was proud to be a farm wife, and worked hard taking care of newborn calves, hauling seed and fertilizer during springs work, and driving truck and grain cart during harvest.
The most important job was raising her children and transporting them to various activities. She said she loved the sound of hearing “Grandma Leanne”. The children and grandchildren looked forward to gatherings where she made her special knoephla soup. A tradition she passed down to her granddaughters.
She was active in the community, ten years as treasurer of the Roseglen Community Chest, Sunday School Teacher, and President of Immanuel Lutheran Church Ladies Aid.
In later years, Leanne and Ron spent several winters in Arizona. Where they met and made friends with people from all over the United States and Canada.
Leanne was preceded in death by her parents, John and Hulda; sisters, Geraldine and Joanne; brother, Ronald; granddaughter, Sarah; and numerous family members.
Leanne was survived by her husband, Ron; children, Mark (Sharol) Haugen, John (Lisa) Haugen, Annette (Lee) Weisgarber; grandchildren, Melanie (Sheldon) Brandt, Brooke Arnold (Jade Schirado), Allison (John) Moscarello, Andrew (Wyniah) Haugen, Caleb (Heidi) Weisgarber; great-grandchildren, Derek, Cohen, Aaron, Wesley, Emmalynn, Madeline, Sylvie; sister-in-law, Barbara Ziegler; and several nieces and nephews.
Her funeral will be held at St. Paul Lutheran Church, where she was baptized, confirmed, and married.
Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 AM on Friday, September 5, 2025, at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Garrison, ND. The family will greet family and friends one hour prior to the funeral service. Burial will be at the Roseglen Cemetery near her farm.
Memorials can be made in Leanne’s memory to the Camp of the Cross.
