Wilbert ‘Allen’ Vise

Wilbert Allen Vise, 82, Burlington, died Thursday, October 3, 2024, in his home.

Allen Vise was born in Minot, ND on May 1, 1942, the son of Wilbert M. and Eleanor (Sonnenberg) Vise. He was raised and educated in Burlington, graduating from Des Lacs High School in 1959. Following graduation he enlisted in the US Marine Corps, serving his country until his honorable discharge in 1964. He married Yvonne New in 1963.

Allen always possessed a strong mechanical ability. Early on he used this at Sears Automotive where he was employed as an auto mechanic. He later began his 40-year career as a high security safe technician when he went to work for Dakota Safe in North Dakota until founding his own business, Northern Safe, Inc. He became one of the few men in the state who could open a locked safe by using manipulation.

In his free time, Allen enjoyed restoring old automotives from the 1940’s. His first project was a 1940 Ford Business Coupe. He started out with the car in washtubs. He meticulously cleaned and restored each part and ended by doing his own upholstery. His next project was a 1946 Ford Convertible. In addition to restoring cars, Allen was an active member of the Magic City Antique Car Club, where he held various offices through the years.

Allen enjoyed wildlife and always thought to offer them food when snow came. Sometimes he fed some 30 pheasants and 20 deer. He was also a good neighbor and was always ready to help anyone who asked.

Allen is survived by his brother Richard (Linda) Vise of Minot and nephews Dustin Vise, Todd Olson, Rich Olson and Joe Olson.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Yvonne, sister Geri Olson and her husband Charles and nephew Nicholas Olson.

Memorials are preferred to Bethel Free Lutheran Church, Minot.
