Betty Kempf

Betty Lonie Kempf, 95, a loving wife, Mother, Grandmother, and Great-Grandmother, passed away on October 2, 2024, into the awaiting arms of Jesus.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM, Wednesday, October 9, 2024, at St. Matthew’s Lutheran Church, 313 Main St, Max, ND.

Betty was born to Lydia Kohler in McClusky, ND. She grew up in Garrison, ND and graduated from Garrison High School. She was united in marriage to Edwin Kempf on June 30, 1949. The couple lived in Garrison and settled in Max where they raised their family. They had six children; Mark, Peggy, Don, Rob (Vickie), Sally (Dan) Wandrei, and Richard. They were married for 67 years. Betty worked as a secretary before Mark was born.

She was a hard worker and one of the kindest and caring people, who always put family and friends before herself. She was an excellent cook and gardener. She enjoyed teaching her daughters and Granddaughter how to make German dishes. She loved birds, quilting, reading and doing any type of puzzle.  She had a soft-spoken and loving demeanor and was a faithful child of God, and her belief never wavered.

Betty is survived by her children, Peggy Willoughby, Don Kempf, Robert (Vickie) Kempf, Sally (Dan) Wandrei and Richard Kempf; grandchildren, Seth Willoughby, Brienne (Donta) Jenkins, Max Kempf, Jack Kempf, Madeline Kempf, Mackenzie Kempf, Luke Kempf; great-grandchildren, Taven and Zaida Jenkins; and several nephews and nieces.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Eddie; son, Mark; her siblings, Katherine Ziegelmann, Alvina Dockter, Olga Thiel, Oscar Miller, Otto Miller, Martin Miller, Herman Miller, Julianne Mayberry, and Johnny Miller; and several nieces and nephews.
