Betty Lee

Betty Lee Affeldt (née Meisch), 93, passed away on July 5, 2024, in Murrells Inlet, SC. Born in Medina, ND on Oct 16, 1930, Betty was a spirited and industrious individual throughout her life.

Betty, alongside her husband Lavern, whom she married in 1948, dedicated six decades to dairy farming in the Garrison, Max, and Steele areas of ND.  In addition to her farming responsibilities, she worked as an aide at Garrison Memorial Hospital. Following Lavern’s passing in 2013, she relocated to Moorhead, MN to be closer to family, and in 2019 moved with her daughter Susan to Murrells Inlet, SC.

Known for her love of cooking, baking, gardening, sewing, knitting, and crocheting, Betty also enjoyed playing Bingo, Whist, and Pinochle, which were sources of great joy and community throughout her life.  She was of the Lutheran faith, taught Sunday School and was an active member in the Ladies Church Circle.

Betty is survived by her daughters, Susan (James) Crawford of Murrells Inlet, SC and Nancee (partner John Melichar) Seibel of Burnsville, MN; daughter-in-law Lona (Brock) Affeldt of Fairfax VA; a sister, Dorothy (Mylo) Anderson of Mandan, ND; and several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, 1 gg grandchild and many nephews and nieces. She was preceded in death by her husband, Lavern; son, Brock; grandson, Julian Lavern Crawford; her parents, Andrew and Leah Schauer Meisch; and siblings, Dale Meisch, Marvel Mautz, and Ardella Schlicting.

In accordance with her wishes, no funeral or memorial service will be held. Following cremation, Betty’s ashes, along with those of her late husband, will be interred at Garrison Cemetery in Garrison, ND. Arrangements are being handled by Burroughs Funeral Home and Cremation Services in Murrells Inlet, SC and Thompson Funeral Home of Garrison, ND.

Betty’s life of dedication, love, and resilience will be cherished and remembered by all who knew her.

It was her wish that any memorial tributes be made in the form of charitable donations to The Alzheimer’s Foundation, American Heart Association or Diabetes Association.
