Edward “Eddy” Barta

Edward “Eddy” Barta, 87, Longmont, Colo., died Friday, June 4, 2021 in Longmont. Eddy’s Panakhyda will be at 1 p.m., Thursday, June 17, 2021 at Ladbury Funeral Service, Dickinson with Fr. Myroslav Dumych presiding. Inurnment will take place at St. John the Baptist Ukrainian Cemetery, Belfield. Military Honors will be provided by the Dickinson American Legion Post 3 Honor Guard.

Edward Joseph Barta of Frederick, Colorado passed away on June 4, 2021. Ed was born March 20, 1934 to Frank and Ann Barta (Ficek). He lived on a rural farmstead in Dunn County, ND as a young boy. Ed’s family later moved from the family farm to Dickinson, ND. Ed attended Roosevelt Grade School and Dickinson High School. Ed enlisted in the Military Service (Navy) when he was 17 years old. During his enlistment, he served on various ships which include; USS Alabama (BB-60), USS Missouri (DD-63), USS Iowa (DD-61), USS St. Paul (CA-73) and the USS Wisconsin (DD-64). He was awarded the Korean Service Medal, United Nations Service Metal, National Defense Service Metal, China Service Metal and the Good Conduct Medal. After receiving an Honorable Discharge from the US Navy, Ed moved to Billings, MT and went to work for Kinney Shoes. Ed attended a wedding in Dickinson, ND, where he met Margie Klem. They went on three dates before Ed proposed. Ed and Marge were married on April 19, 1958. They celebrated 54 joyous years of marriage before Margie passed away on October 25, 2010. During Dad’s career they lived in various locations including; Billings, MT (Kinney Shoes), Great Falls, MT (Kinney Shoes), Aurora, CO (Kinney Shoes), Rawlins, WY (Smyths Dept Store, Bart’s LTD & Sinclair Refinery) before semi retiring in Frederick, CO in 2001.

Ed was involved in many different organizations including; The American Legion, Elks Lodge and Knights of Columbus. He enjoyed traveling, going to see his Denver Broncos play and spending time with family and friends. Ed is survived by his three children, Mike (Chris) of Casper, WY, Rod of Windsor, CO and Greg (Shari) of Frederick, CO; five beloved grandchildren, Zack Barta of St. George, UT, Josh Barta of Laramie, WY, Hannah Barta of Casper, WY, Amber Muller of St. George, UT and Amanda Barta of St. George, UT. and his brother, Frank Barta of Lexington, KY. Ed was preceded in death by his spouse, Margie; parents, Frank and Ann Barta; brother, Ervin Barta and sister, Eileen Grindberg.

Ed will be greatly missed by his family and numerous friends.
