Sharon B. Engwis, daughter to Harvey and Betty (Neuhalfen) Schmeichel was born on January 29, 1943, in Minot, ND. Passed away peacefully April 26, 2024 in Puyallup, WA. Sharon was raised in Minot attending Minot public school. In 1960, she met a young, handsome Airman stationed at Minot Airforce Base who soon became the love of her life. They were married in Minot, ND on August 28, 1960. They were blessed with three Daughters, Katherine (Kitty), Cora Leigh and Christine (Tina).
As a military family they lived in Minot, ND, California, Istanbul, Turkey, and Illinois. After Ken’s retirement from the Airforce, the family moved to Midland, MI where Ken grew up. In 1975 the family moved back to Minot, ND. Sharon worked at Woolworth food counter both in Midland, MI and Minot, ND until 1978 where she embarked on a new career with AFLAC Insurance Company as sales associate, a job she truly excelled at. In 1989 Sharon & Ken moved to Auburn, WA where she worked for Weyerhaeuser in their human resource department until retirement in 2015. Ken passed away February 10, 2004.
Sharon enjoyed working in her flower gardens, being involved in her Church, playing pinochle twice a week at the Kent WA Senior Center and having breakfast every Saturday morning with her friends. Every fall Sharon would travel to Minot to attend Norsk Hostfest with her two sisters, Leona Stearns and Marlene Wolf, daughter Tina and granddaughter Abbey, plus other family members.
Sharon was a loving Wife, Mother, Grandmother, Aunt, and Friend to so many. She will truly be missed.
Sharon is survived by her daughters, Cora Leigh Belgarde, Prosser, WA; Tina Hughes, Minot, ND; Grandchildren- Patrice, Ricky Jr, Kenneth Belgarde all of Prosser, WA; Matthew (Aislinn Kimball) Acker, Port Orchard, WA; Melissa (Cody) Acker-Hart, Puyallup, WA; Michael (Michelle) Harnist, Minot, ND; Abbey Olson, Minot, ND; Great Grandchildren: Mallina and Tenayaha Gilmore, Prosser, WA; Madison (Cody Howell) Harnist, Floyd, VA; Carson Harnist, Newcomerstown, OH; Great-Great Grandchildren; Kyle Howell, Floyd, VA; Jayce Kimball and baby Kimball due July 2024, Port Orchard, WA; Aunt Eleanor Neuhalfen, Minot, ND; numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Sharon is preceded in death by her husband Ken, Daughter Kitty Acker, granddaughter Sharon Gilmore; parents Harvey and Betty Schmeichel; brother Willis (Charlene) Schmeichel; Son-in-law Harry Hughes; brother-in-law Leo Wolf.
