Arlene Perry, 98, Minot, died Tuesday, April 9, 2024, in her home.

Arlene was born October 18, 1925, in rural Parshall, ND to George and Pearl Hove. She attended Parshall High School and graduated in 1943. She continued her secondary education at Minot State Teacher’s College, where she earned her standard teaching certificate.

Arlene taught at Model High School in Minot and then for a time in Williston. She moved to Great Falls, MT in 1952 to continue her teaching career. While in Great Falls, she met her future husband Joe in 1952.

Arlene was united in marriage to Joseph Perry on June 28, 1953, in Raub, ND. They went back to Great Falls, where they made their first home. Following marriage, Arlene worked as a substitute teacher in the school system, and later started a job at Sears, working in catalog sales. She retired after 18 years of service to the company.

Arlene attended Faith United Methodist Church, where she has been a member since 1971. She enjoyed doing volunteer work and especially loved traveling. Her most memorable trips came in college when she took two tours which included New York, Philadelphia, Washington DC, and the next year to Florida and Cuba. Arlene also appreciated her travels from coast to coast and border to border with her husband and children during Joe’s military years. While living in Goose Bay, Labrador, Arlene enjoyed making ceramics, in which she turned into a weekly family event that all looked forward to on Saturdays. Arlene was also an avid bowler and loved to do baking and canning. She will be dearly missed by her family, friends, and fellow church members.

Arlene is survived by her loving husband of over 70 years, Joe Perry, of Minot; children, Douglas (Pam) Perry of San Angelo, TX, Steve (Carolyn) Perry of Burlington, ND, and Donna (Gerard) Aarhus of Palmer, Alaska; grandchildren, Zachary Perry, Joshua Perry, Christopher Perry, Sarah Perry, Amber Perry, Jonathan Aarhaus, Julie Aarhus, and Brian Aarhus; step-grandson, Trevor (Priscilla) Wagnitz; four great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.
