George Arthur Somers, 90, of Bismarck, North Dakota, passed away November 23, 2023, surrounded by his loving wife, of 56 years, and daughters.

 

In lieu of a funeral or memorial service, a celebration of life will be held in Cohasset, Minnesota in the spring of 2024. 

 

George was born in 1933 to Treon and Matilda Somers in Cohasset, Minnesota where he spent his formative years. After graduation, George served in the U.S. AirForce.  Upon fulfillment,

 

George met and married his first wife and raised a family in Washington State. 

In 1968, George returned to the Midwest where he met and married Ida Anna Hoffer.  They made their home in Bismarck, North Dakota where they raised four daughters.   

 

George was filled with a keen wit and a sense humor which made him successful in a career of sales and marketing.  George was most proud of his work with the Canadian consulate and establishing agriculture trade between the United States and Canada.  These relationships allowed George to travel extensively throughout the upper Midwest and Canada.  Through this business George established many lifelong friendships.  George was a great storyteller and everyone he met became a part of his story.   

 

George’s greatest enjoyment was spending time with family.  That included spending time at the lake and numerous road trips to visit children and grandchildren.  He enjoyed home improvement and remodeling projects.  He was always a phone call away and ready to give advice.   

 

He is survived by his wife Ida, his daughters Loretta Somers, Cohasset, MN, Wanda (Rick) Lanz, Bismarck, ND, Kimberly Somers, Fargo, ND, Lorrie (Rory Ibes) Somers, Bismarck, ND, George JR (Rose) Somers, Federal Way, Washington, Robert (Carol) Somers, Spokane, Washington, Michelle Romero, Albuquerque, New Mexico, numerous grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and his most precious granddaughter Michaella RoseAnna who remained by his side in his last days.   

 

George was preceded in death by his parents, siblings, and three children: Terry, Mike, and Krista.
