Daniel ‘Mike’ Reid

Daniel Michael Reid, 82, of Minot North Dakota, passed away on November 21, 2023.  He passed peacefully with his family by his side. 

Daniel, fondly known as Mike, was born to Samuel and Golda (Nettleton) Reid on June 2, 1941. He was raised on the family farm in Mountrail County near Palermo.  Mike went to Stanley for grades 1-8 and Ray for 9-12.  He graduated from Ray in 1959. After high school, he attended Wahpeton State School of Science for diesel mechanics. 

He married his high school sweetheart, Ellen Mae Salverson, on November 11, 1961 in Ray. They moved many times as Mike worked in the oil field his entire life.  One of his many achievements was that he drilled the Parshall One Horizontal Bakken Well and the Parshall Two Horizontal Bakken Well in North Dakota. 

They raised three children while living in Kenmare. In addition to his oilfield years, he also worked on the family farm. After retirement they briefly lived at Van Hook before moving to Minot. 

Mike was a long-time member of the Kenmare Lutheran Church. In recent years, Mike attended Zion Lutheran Church in Minot. Mike had a strong faith and loved his Lord and Savior. 

Mike’s passions included hunting, fishing, aviation (He flew a Super Cub airplane for many years), Harley Davidson motorcycles (He took numerous trips with Ellen and friends), classic cars (He rebuilt a 1939 Ford pickup), taking care of his daughter’s dog (Zoom), and his most important passion was his family. 

His loving family includes: wife of 62 years; Ellen, children: Scott (Wendy) Reid, Mandan,  Shawn (Marcie) Reid, Washington, Kim (Darren) Reid, Minot; seven grandchildren to include Cassie (Tim) Conover, Michael (Paige) Reid, Danielle (Duncan) Kindle, Sam Reid, Tayten Reid, Joshua and Grace Groninger; three great grandchildren to include Liam and Jaxson Conover and future baby girl that will be born to Michael (Paige) Reid.

Mike was preceded in death by his parents, sister Maridell, and brother-in-law Larry.

Funeral service:  Monday, November 27, 2023, at 2:00 p.m. in Zion Lutheran Church, Minot, ND.
Visitation will be held one hour prior to the start of the service in the church
