Vernon V. Messerschmidt Jr. passed away on Nov. 18, 2023. A celebration of Vern’s life will be held on Sunday, December 3, 2023 from 1-3 p.m. at the Morton County Fair Building. Burial will take place next spring in Wisconsin.
Vernon was born on Sept. 5, 1962 to Vernon V. and Zepha Messerschmidt and grew up in Northern WI. He spent years in Wisconsin and Kansas before settling in New Salem ND. Vern worked for Kautzman Trucking, Strata Construction & Anderson Western as a truck driver and construction worker.
He enjoyed working (and complaining about it) and being there for his family, always willing to help out anyone in need. Vern spent many years as a Volunteer Firefighter, his hobbies were working on vehicles and telling you your lawn needed mowing!
Known as Vern, Uncle Vern or Junior, his absence will be deeply felt by those who loved him. He’s irreplaceable and will never know how many people’s lives he touched.
Vern is survived by a sister Billie, siblings Penny Buran, Philip Carkhuff and Pat Fornshell, lots of nieces and nephews and his sisters in law Sherry and Linda.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his sister Ella Hoffman and siblings Martin Messerschmidt, Priscilla Gilbert & Bob Phillips.
