Ray Klein, 88, Minot and longtime owner of Ray’s Carpet Service, passed away on Thursday, November 9, 2023 at a Minot hospital.

Raymond  Anthony “Ray” Klein was born on September 8, 1935 in Rugby, ND to Michael and Elizabeth (Schmidt) Klein. He was raised on the family ranch south of Balta, ND and attended school in Balta.  As a young adult, he worked with his father on the ranch until 1957.

Ray was united in marriage to Bertha Hoffart at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Knox, ND on September 24, 1957 and they made their home in Minot. Ray was employed as a floor-covering specialist for many years at I. Keating Furniture World until he established Ray’s Carpet Service. After Ray’s retirement, he worked part-time at Don Bessette Motors as a driver.

Ray and Bertha enjoyed traveling throughout Europe, the United States, Canada, Mexico, and Australia. Ray was a member of Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church in Minot, where he ushered for 40 years. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus and was a fourth degree knight. Ray was a former member of Mt. Carmel Catholic Church in Balta.

Ray is survived by his loving wife of 66 years: Bertha; brothers: Edward of Rugby, James (Arlene) of Moorhead, and Dennis (Georgeann) of Rugby; in-laws: Ann Hoffart, Betrice Schaan, Nick Hoffart, Dan Hoffart, Al Hoffart and Mike Hoffart; goddaughters: Sabrina Klein, Tammy Olson, and April Hoffart; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Ray was preceded in death by his parents; brother: Kenneth; sisters: Helen Hoffert and Clara Vetsch; sisters-in-law, Arlois Klein, Alvina Hoffart, Mary Hoffart and Betty Hoffart; brothers-in-law: Peter Hoffert, James Vetsch, Robert Schaan and Edwin Hoffart; nieces: Cynthia Hoffert and Tawny Klein; nephews: Delwynn Klein, David Hoffart and Glen Hoffert.

Mass of Christian Burial: Friday, November 17, 2023 at 11:00 a.m. at Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church, Minot. A delayed stream of the service may be accessed by using https://www.mtmsales.net/thomas
Visitation: Thursday, November 16, 2023 from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. in Thomas Family Funeral Home – Minot.
Recitation of the Rosary:  Thursday at 7:00 p.m. in Thomas Family Funeral Home – Minot.
Interment: Rosehill Memorial Park, Minot
Memorials are preferred to the Our Lady of Grace Food Pantry.
