Harold Robinson, 77, Moffit, passed away November 1, 2023, in a Bismarck hospital. Memorial services will be on Thursday, November 9, 2023, at 11:00 a.m. at Bismarck Funeral Home.
Harold was born on November 27, 1945, in Bismarck, North Dakota to Edna (Reich) and Melvin Robinson. He was the eldest of two brothers and three sisters and was raised by his grandmother Katherine (Munsch) and grandfather Jake Reich on a farm near Hazelton. He attended school in Hazelton until the eighth grade when he started work on the farm. In 1968, he got a job with Northern Improvement and worked on electrical towers in the eastern part of the state.
Boyle met Frances Rooker in the spring of 1966 at a party and were married on October 3, 1969. They took over the Rooker Farmstead in 1970 where they raised cattle, sheep, chickens, and many other “pets” before retiring. Every spring he would search for the first crocuses of the year to bring home to Frank, as he would call her. When planting or harvesting he would catch critters that he found in the field like snakes or bunnies and bring home for his kids to see and play with before letting them go.
He taught his children the enjoyment of shooting by gopher hunting out in the pasture. Then in later years, the family would have an annual deer hunting get together at opening with lots of food and laughter. He was an incredible shot because he had nerves of steel. One time shooting a coyote in the middle of the night only by moonlight.
We all loved his patience, (showcased with his perfectly browned pork chops). Never getting too excited, his family has many humorous stories to tell. Including ditching the pickup and back up on the road without a flinch or any comment at all.
His family would endearingly tease him with only his grandson willing to stand up for Grandpa and he would pick on back, especially his baby sisters that he loved dearly.
Boyle would often decline to play cards with his kids or grandkids but if you started a game of solitaire, he couldn’t resist telling you how to play it. He would play pinocle and nerts at the neighbor’s house often.
The grandkids will all remember his grandpa grunt and face when they were getting into too much mischief or being too loud.
He is survived by his wife, Frances; his brothers, Joe (Sharon) Robinson and DeWayne Robinson; his sisters, Linda Holweg, Sylvia Hout and Anita Robinson; his children, David (Candie) Robinson, Dean Robinson and Billi (Mike) Wolf; as well as his grandchildren, Brandon Larrison, Sierra Robinson, Melody Robinson, Gage Wolf, Haila Wolf and Senna Wolf.
He was preceded in death by his parents Edna and Melvin Robinson; and Grandparents Katherine and Jake Reich.
