Adeline Vannatta, age 92, longtime resident of Minot and formerly of Anamoose, died Monday, October 23, 2023 in a Minot hospital.

Adeline was born on March 4, 1931 near Kief, ND to Theodore and Mary (Suckert) Moser.  She was raised on a farm near Kief and educated at rural schools.  After her family sold the farm, they moved to Anamoose, ND.  As a young adult, Adeline worked in Anamoose for a dentist and also as a waitress in a small café there.

Adeline married Eugene Vannatta on August 8, 1957 in Towner, ND. The couple lived in Anamoose for a short time before moving to Minot in 1958. Adeline was employed as a hostess, and then as a banquet supervisor at the North Hill Holiday Inn for 21 years. In addition to her time at the Holiday Inn, she spent 5 years working at the Greenhouse Café and 5 years at St. Leo’s Childcare. After the Holiday Inn changed ownership, she worked as a waitress/banquet server for the Grand Hotel until mid-2018. In her job as a waitress she made many friends and served all her customers with warmth and kindness. She loved working, and did not like having to stop for health reasons. If she would have had her way, Adeline truly would have worked until the very end.

Adeline’s faith played a significant role in her life, and she was an active member at the Church of St. Therese, the Little Flower, where she served as a Eucharistic Minister. She was also a lifetime member of the VFW Auxiliary of Anamoose.

Adeline and her husband loved playing pinochle with friends and family; and she also enjoyed cooking big meals for family get-togethers. She loved to embroider, and often gifted beautifully embroidered dishtowels to relatives and friends. Adeline liked things neat and tidy, so we all knew that you better get the mail and papers read before she had the chance to throw them away. Adeline’s most cherished moments were the ones spent with family and friends, whether it was traveling or getting together for special occasions and celebrations.

Adeline is survived by her children: Michael (Kathy) Vannatta of Minot, ND and Barry Vannatta (fiancée Diane Sandy) of Steele, ND; grandchildren: Jennifer Iverson Bolduc and Gregory (Samantha) Vannatta of Minot, ND; siblings: Violet Michalenko of Minot, ND; Edna Schmeets of Minot, ND; Clifford Moser of Larimore, ND; and Glen (Vicki) Moser of Bismarck, ND; sisters-in-law Jeanette Bickler of Monroe WA, Delilah (Ken) Jundt of Minot, ND, and Georgianna Vannatta of St. George UT; brothers-in-law Arland (Dori) Vannatta of Chesterfield, VA, Michael (Sharleen) Vannatta of Minot, ND, and Gary (Nancy) Vannatta of Minot, ND; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Adeline was preceded in death by her parents; beloved husband of 65 years: Eugene; great granddaughter Haley Iverson; brother-in-law: Lawrence Schmeets; brother-in-law Pete Michalenko; sister-in-law: Loretta Moser; brother-in-law Marvin Bickler; and brother-in-law Donald Vannatta.
