Matthew “Matt” Mueller, 46, of Bismarck, passed away surrounded by his family on October 24, 2023, at CHI St. Alexius, Bismarck.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 11:00 on Monday, October 30, 2023 at Bismarck Funeral Home.  A visitation will be held on Sunday from 2:30-4:00 PM at Bismarck Funeral Home, with a Prayer Service at 4:00 PM.

Matt was born December 29, 1976, in Mandan, ND, to Norman and Barbara.  Matt was taught to crawl by his brothers Dan & Jim, who used a skateboard to “help” him learn how to move his arms and legs.  He loved Bugs Bunny and the Bozo Show, even winning prizes as a home viewer once and earning a news article in the New Salem Journal highlighting his big win.

Matt followed in his father’s footsteps throughout his childhood, learning to be a good man and a hell of a mechanic.  He loved working on vehicles, going to car shows, and being part of “the triplets” (Matt and cousins Tina & Jess).  After unexpectedly losing his dad, he remained in New Salem with his brother Dan and sister-in-law Pat, helping out at the Sportsman’s Café and finishing school.  After graduating from New Salem High School he began his lifelong career as a mechanic and carpenter.

December 7, 1999, Matt met his future wife Amy Fredrickson, at the Silver Dollar in Mandan, where Amy promptly beat Matt in a game of pool.  They married October 28, 2000 at Zion Lutheran Church in Bismarck.  Their family grew with Hayden’s birth in 2002 and again when Zander was born in 2006.  Matt was fiercely protective of his wife, children, and pets.

Matt loved the outdoors, spending time on the water, hunting, fishing, and generally causing ruckus whenever possible.  NASCAR and motorcycle riding were among his favorite activities when in season.  He valued his time with family, both blood relatives and those from other mothers.  Music was a major part of his life, including seeing Johnny Cash, AC/DC, Charlie Daniels, Motley Crue, KISS, Steve Miller Band, and many more.

Matt was a good man that did his best to take care of his family and give to those in need.  His life was cut short by a vicious disease.  He fought hard to remain with us, and he is and will be missed by us all.

Matt will be deeply missed by his mother, Barbara Deibert; his wife, Amy Mueller, his children, Hayden and Zander; his brothers, Dan Mueller and Jim (Janitda) Mueller.  His large family and circle of friends are counted as those whose hearts are fuller for having spent time with Matt, as well.

He was preceded in death by his Father, Norman Mueller, and Stepfather, John Deibert;  Grandparents, Otto and Katie Mueller; Grandma, Jo Nagel, Grandfather, Bill Olson and Step-Grandfather, Eddie Nagel; and Sister-in-law, Pat Mueller.  He unexpectedly lost a brother from another mother, Corey “Chief” Wilkie, four years ago, as well.
