Phyllis Metz

Phyllis Delaine Metz, 96, Minot, died Friday, October 20, 2023 in a Minot Assisted Living Facility.

Phyllis was born February 17, 1927 in Anamoose, ND, the daughter of Jacob and Pauline (Hoepfer) Roll.  She was raised and educated in Anamoose and moved with her family to Breckenridge, MN for a year.  They moved to Alsen, ND and then Balta where she graduated from Balta High School in 1944.   

Phyllis then moved to Minot and entered Trinity School of Nursing by way of the Cadet Nursing Corps. She graduated in 1947 as a Registered Nurse. She then became employed at Northwest Clinic as a nurse for Dr Rowe.

Phyllis was united in marriage to Peter Metz on May 27, 1949 in Minot.  They made their home throughout the years in Fargo, Eugene, OR, Aberdeen, SD Coon Rapids, MN and Mankato, MN before returning to Minot in 1969.  Along with raising their 5 children, Phyllis returned to her employment as an RN at Trinity Hospital in Minot for 18 years. She retired in 1987. Peter died November 27, 2010.

Phyllis was a longtime member of Bethany Lutheran Church, Minot, the VFW Post 753 Auxiliary and PTA.  After retiring, she did volunteer work for Trinity Hospice for several years. She enjoyed reading, travelling, doing crafts, cross-stitching and collecting music boxes.  She was an avid baker, with her specialty of baking buns.

Her loving family includes, children, Paul (Ellen) Metz, Minot, Carol Metz, Colorado Springs, CO, Mary Metz, Minot and Joel (Shari) Metz, Minot; grandchildren, Jason (Holly) Metz, Michael (Laura) Metz, Allison (Karter) Lesmann, Sarah (Alan) Slotter, Nathan Ross, Jacob (Paige) Heilman, Caleb (Courtney) Heilman, Emily Metz, Stephanie Armstrong and Matthew Metz; great grandchildren, Olivia, Sophia, Elliot and Harrison Metz, Jameson, Gage and Austin Lesmann, Alexander, David and Thomas Slotter, Harper, Taytum and Lennox Heilman; Kinlee, Gracelynn and Brooks Heilman; Jaxson Armstrong.

Phyllis was preceded in death by her parents, husband of 61 years, Peter and daughter Kathleen (James) Aiken.

Celebration of Life Service: Thursday, October 26, 2023 at 1:00 p.m. in Thomas Family Funeral Home, Minot.
Interment: ND Veterans Cemetery, Rural Mandan, ND
Visitation: At her request, there will not be a viewing, however friends and family are invited to sign a memorial register book on Wednesday, October 25th from 3:00-5:00 p.m. 
Memorials: preferred to the Domestic Violence Center of Trinity Hospice of Minot.
