Mark Charging

Mark Allen Charging, 68, of Wahpeton, passed away on Sunday, September 24, 2023, at Bethany in Fargo, after a courageous battle with cancer.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 3:00 PM on September 28, 2023, at St. Nicholas Catholic Church, Garrison, ND. Burial to follow at Immaculate Conception Cemetery, White Shield, ND. A rosary will be held at 2:30 PM. Viewing will begin at 2:00 PM.

Mark Allen Charging was born December 26, 1954, to George “Duane” Charging and Beatrice (Giddings) Charging in Garrison, ND. He was raised on a ranch west of White Shield and attended boarding schools throughout his childhood. Mark served in the Navy during the Vietnam War era. He enjoyed the freedom of life by travelling to many places and spending time with family and friends. He pursued different opportunities which always helped others in significant ways. He lived in Wahpeton for over 30 years and continued to help others and engage in the community, especially St. John’s Church. Father Dale Lagodinski described him as a warrior. Mark met so many special people, including his devoted partner, Sandy Willson. 

Mark is survived by Sandy Willson; siblings, Mary (Harry) Oosahwee, Tahlequah, OK, Amy Zephier, Lincoln, NE, Carol (Tyke) Danks, New Town, Stanley Charging, Crystal, MN, Russell Charging, White Shield, ND, Donna (Hank) Taken Alive, McLaughin, SD, Nancy (John) Cohen, Missoula, MT, Steve Charging, Brookings, SD, and Robert (Terri Lynn) Charging, Aurora, SD; and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews, and godchildren.

Mark is preceded in death by his parents, George “Duane” and Beatrice (Giddings) Charging; sister, Janice (Charging) Kerzmann; nephew, Adam Oosahwee; and many close relatives and friends.
