Maralyn Lauretta Braaten, 89, Minot, died Tuesday, September 19, 2023 in a Garrison care center.

Maralyn was born October 11, 1933 in Bottineau, ND, the daughter of Roy and Lydia (Pugh) Waters. She was raised and educated in Oak Creek Township near Bottineau. As a young adult, she was employed in Bottineau doing home care for area families.

Maralyn was united in marriage to Floyd Braaten on October 11, 1952 in Bottineau, ND. They moved to Upham, followed by rural Russell, ND before making their home in Minot in May of 1957. Maralyn was employed at the Americana Nursing Home (now Minot Health and Rehab) as a certified nurses’ aide for many years until becoming their Activities Director, serving as head of the department for eight years, until her retirement in 1978.

Maralyn was a member of Faith United Methodist Church, Minot where she served as chairperson for many church bazaars. She was also a member of the women’s group and an activity director for the church. You could often find her doing crafts in her spare time and enjoyed collecting dolls.

Maralyn’s loving family includes her children David (Elaine) Braaten, Minot, Kathy (Robert) Wiedrich, Cathay, ND, Linda (Alan) Beyreis, Garrison, ND and Pamela (Steve) Seibert, Minot, grandchildren Travis (Shannon) Braaten, Melissa Braaten, Scott (Jessica) Braaten, Heather (Brentt) Wherley, Ashley (Theo) Toliver, Lisa (Adam) Walters, Valerie (Bubba) Smith, Christopher Wiedrich, Brianna Seibert, Brittany (Ryan) Stockie, Brice Seibert and Brian Seibert; 21 great grandchildren; 2 great-great granddaughters and numerous nieces and nephews.

Maralyn was preceded in death by her parents, husband Floyd, great-grandson Easton Braaten, brothers Leland, Allen and William Waters and sisters Mildred Shirley and Margaret Pautzke.

Celebration of Life Service: 11:00 a.m. Saturday, September 23, 2023 at Faith United Methodist Church, Minot. 
Interment: Rosehill Memorial Park, Minot
Visitation: Friday, September 22, 2023, from 4:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. at the Thomas Family Funeral Home, Minot.
Memorials are preferred to the food pantry or building fund at Faith United Methodist Church, Minot.
