John Adam Schock, 56, passed away peacefully in his sleep on September 10, 2023, in Bismarck, ND.

John was born on September 2, 1967, in Honolulu, HI to Kenneth and Karen Schock of Bismarck, ND.  Kenneth’s career took the family to many different locations throughout the country and John was able to form many friendships that lasted a lifetime.  He graduated from Mandan High School in 1985 and later attended the University of North Dakota and the University of Mary.  He married Sheri (Dunkel) Hardy on November 10th, 1994.  They had one daughter named Ciara (Schock) Kirschenheiter – the light of his life.  His life was further blessed with two grandchildren, Leah Jean and most recently George Patrick.

John was an avid golfer and passed that love onto his daughter.  He spent numerous nights golfing at Riverwood with his friends.  And if that wasn’t enough time spent on the golf course, John and his friends even planned a yearly golf trip playing various courses in the United States.  Playing softball with his friends was another one of his great pleasures while Ciara was growing up.  John enjoyed coaching Ciara during basketball games even though Ciara wasn’t too fond of it.  During Ciara’s childhood many weekends were spent on Beaver Lake with other family members.  Like every other sport, John was a natural skier.  He loved being in the water whether it was tubbing, swimming, or skiing.  John and Ken shared memories of going on motorcycle rides and hunting beavers.  He was a devoted Denver Broncos fan, and many memories were made watching or yelling at the Broncos on TV!  In most recent years John enjoyed playing with and holding his grandchildren.

John worked for the National Information Solutions Cooperative (NISC) for 23 years where he met some of his lifelong friends.  He also spent some time working part time jobs for the local Bismarck golf courses.

John is survived by his parents Kenneth and Karen Schock, Daughter Ciara (Jason) Kirschenheiter, grandchildren Leah and George.  He is further survived by many family members and friends.

He is preceded in death by, grandparents Theodore & Bertha Schock and Richard & Frances Knudson.

A visitation will be held Thursday, September 14, 2023, from 5:00-7:00 PM at House of Prayer Lutheran Church with a Prayer Service at 7:00 PM. A Memorial Service will be held at 10:30 AM on Friday, September 15, 2023, at House of Prayer Lutheran Church, Bismarck, ND with Rev Joel Samuelson officiating. Burial will follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery. The funeral for John will be livestreamed at the following link: https://bismarckfuneralhome.com/john-a-schock/.

He will be missed by all who loved him.  His love for golf and the Denver Broncos will live on in his grandchildren – Ciara will be sure of that.
