Marie Ilene Knutson, 89, Minot, died Thursday, August 31, 2023 in a Minot Assisted Living Care Center surrounded by her loving family and Caring Edge Hospice.
Marie was born January 4, 1934 on the family farm near Cooperstown, North Dakota the daughter of Lawrence and Ruth (Olson) Monson. She was raised and educated in Cooperstown. During her younger years, she babysat for area families and was employed at the Cooperstown Theatre.
Marie was united in marriage to Robert “Bob” Knutson on March 1, 1954 at Finley, North Dakota. They moved to Minot in 1954.They purchased a small farm near Logan in 1959, where they raised their five children. Marie was a homemaker, animal lover and loved to bake, knit, crochet and do embroidery work. She was a longtime member of Christ Lutheran Church.
The family would like to thank the staff of Elison and Caring Edge Hospice for their loving care of Mom. Also, to daughter-in-law, Penny, for being the family glue throughout this difficult time.
Her loving family includes: husband of 69 years, Robert of Minot; children, Paul Knutson, Minot; Barbara (David) Lampron, Bennington, VT, Ruth (Knutson) Lang, Minot & Katherine (Kenneth) Swanson, Minot; daughter in law, Penny (Lautenschlager) Knutson, Minot; 13 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren; sister, Rebecca (Gordon) Knutson, Cooperstown, ND; brother, Larry Monson, Huber Heights, OH; brother in law, Hillard (Ann) Knutson, Sioux City, IA; along with numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Marie was preceded by her parents; son, Dale Knutson; 2 grandsons, Casey & Samuel Knutson; son-in-law, Richard “Tony” Starke, Jr.; sister-in-law, Virginia (Kvien) Monson; and mother-and-father-in-law.
Celebration of Life service: Wednesday, September 6, 2023 at 11:00 a.m. in Christ Lutheran Church, Minot.
Interment: North Dakota Veterans Cemetery, rural Mandan, ND at a later date.
Visitation: At her request, there will be no viewing, however friends may sign a memorial register book on Tuesday, September 5th from 5:00-7:00 p.m. in Thomas Family Funeral Home, Minot.
Memorials are preferred to Christ Lutheran Church or Souris Valley Humane Society.
