Richard Selk

Rick Selk, 66, Minot, died on Tuesday, August 22, 2023 in a Minot hospital following a courageous, five month battle with Pancreatic and Liver Cancer.  He was surrounded by his loving family.

Richard “Rick” Selk was born on February 1, 1957 in Minot, ND to Maurice and Gloria (Olson) Selk. He was raised in Minot and attended Bel Air Elementary School, Jim Hill Junior High School and Minot High School where he participated in football and basketball. Also, he was a member of the 1972 Minot Elks Babe Ruth Baseball All-Star Team that won the ND state championship. He continued his education at Imperial Valley Junior College where he was a kicker for the football team. Rick was once married to Renee Anderson and had three sons. They made their home in Minot, where he was employed at North Hill Bowl and Chateau Lanes from 1977-1988. Rick married Donna Schmitz Anhorn on July 16, 1988 in Minot. They moved to Minneapolis in 1989 and he was employed by Pfizer Pharmaceuticals. They returned to Minot in 1998 when he began employment with Burlington Northern Santa Fe Railway in their Track Maintenance Department. He had recently retired from BNSF Railway on August 3, 2023.

Rick was a member of the Moose Lodge and enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping, watching and participating in all sports and music. He especially enjoyed spending a lot of time watching his grandkids grow up and participate in their activities.

Rick’s loving family includes: his wife: Donna; children: Ryan (Brooke) Selk of West Fargo, Rory (Megan) Selk of Minot and Rody (Jennifer) Selk of Bismarck; stepchildren: Jacinta Anhorn (Bob Braun) of Edina and Derek (Kari) Anhorn of Bloomington; grandchildren: Jackson, Nolan, Adelynn, Mollie, Locke, Luka, Lake, Lottie, Julianna, Owen, and Natalie; sister: Laurie Selk (Dan) Swartz of Gilbert AZ; sister-in-law: Rhonda Holden of Minot; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. 

Rick was preceded in death by his parents; brother: Jim Selk; an infant brother, and granddaughter Charlotte Rose.

Liturgy of the Word Service: Tuesday, August 29, 2023 at 11:00 a.m. in Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church, Minot.
Rick’s “Happy” Hour: Monday from 5:00 p.m.to 7:00 p.m. in Thomas Family Funeral Home, Minot.
Memorials are preferred to Bishop Ryan Catholic Schools or Prairie Grit Adaptive Sports.
