Marvin Stephen Longie, 73, of Bismarck, North Dakota passed away August 9th, 2023.

A small service for friends will be held at 10:00 a.m. on August 17th 2023 at McDowell Dam where Marvin enjoyed visiting.

Marvin was born in Bottineau, North Dakota on June 30th, 1950 to Vernon Longie and Hilda Longie, and later adopted by Arthur and Alice Longie.

Marvin is an enrolled member of the Turtle Mountain Band of Chippewa Indians. Marvin grew up and developed many relationships with peers at the now Life Skills and Transition Center in Grafton, North Dakota. Marvin moved to the Bismarck-Mandan area in 2000 and Support Systems provided support ever since. Community Options, Inc. also provided support for Marvin. While Marvin left staff and friends on their toes by his mischievous antics, he brought much joy and laughter to those around him.

He had a love for Diet Coke and going to Runnings to purchase goggles. Gun Smoke was on the television 24/7. Marvin also loved learning about his Native American culture. Every Wednesday when he came into Support Systems, he was presented with two Native American photos as he sipped the best coffee in town.  He could light up a room with his smile and caring heart and one had to be prepared for a tease.

Marvin will be deeply missed by many staff members from Support Systems, Community Options, Catholic Charities North Dakota, West Central Human Service Center, and other members of the community.

Do not stand at my grave and weep, I am not there, I do not sleep, I am a thousand winds that blow, I am the diamond’s gift of snow. I am the sunlight on ripened grain, I am the autumn’s gentle rain, when you awaken in the morning’s hush, I am the swift uplifting rush.
