Violet Rose Ohlhauser, 79, passed away at her home in Edgewood Vista on August 7, 2023.
Violet was born on November 2, 1943, in Judson, North Dakota to Art and Rose (Hegel) Nelson. She attended Mandan High School graduating in 1962. She went on to the Christie Beauty School and graduated in October 1963, as a cosmetologist. This was her first career and she received many awards in it. She had other careers including working for the North Dakota Farm Analysis Department, North Dakota Grocers Association, and sorting coupons (she was very quick at this). She then pursued an accounting degree while attending Bismarck State College and then onto the University of Mary in Bismarck graduating in 1993 with her baccalaureate degree. She held a few accounting positions in Bismarck and in 1997 moved to California and worked in accounting for numerous years before moving back to Bismarck in 2014.
Vi married the love of her life, Richard Ohlhauser on July 7, 1970, in Mandan, North Dakota. They moved to El Cajon, California to raise and expand their family. Dad talked Mom into moving back to North Dakota in 1978. We are very happy they did as North Dakota is where we are surrounded by a loving family. Richard passed away in 1987 and Mom was left to raise four kids on her own.
Violet came from a large, loving family. She had nine brothers and five sisters. She is preceded in death by her husband, Richard; parents, Art and Rose Nelson; sisters, Virginia (and Wayne) Felix; Kathy (and Bill) Kreisel; brothers, William Nelson and Donald Nelson; in-laws, Adam and Lydia Ohlhauser; sisters-in-law, Irene (and Marvin) Schulz and Deb Nelson; brothers-in-law, Dale Radke, Ray Wetsch, and Leroy Ohlhauser; nephews, Scott Ohlhauser (who shared her same birthday), Paul Nelson and Cory Nelson.
She is survived by her children, Sheila (James) Roehrich of Bismarck ND, Shane (Kristie) Ohlhauser of Wilton ND, Sherise (Brent) Gatzke of Mandan, ND and Shannon (Mark) Ross of Maple Grove MN; her nine grandchildren, Allie (Jayden) Hanson, Tyler Roehrich, Ashley Gatzke, Alexis (Aaron) Werre, Taylor (special friend Austin Fitterer) Ohlhauser, Amanda Gatzke, Lyndsey (special friend Parker Schmidt) Hagseth, Layne Hagseth, Adyson Ross and one very special Great Grandson, Rigby Hanson. Her brothers, Wayne (Alice) Nelson, Bob Nelson, Rodney Nelson, Delton (Gloria) Nelson, Clem (Cindy) Nelson, Melvin Nelson, and Marvin (Robin) Nelson. Her sisters, Alice Radke, Leela (Benny) Villorente and MariKay Nelson. Her sisters-in-law, Carol Wetsch, Louise Ohlhauser, and Cheryl Nelson and many special Nieces, Nephews, Great Nieces and Great Nephews.
Vi loved to play cards, especially pinochle. In her younger years, she was an avid bowler and enjoyed gardening and her plants, she had a very green thumb. But most of all she loved spending time with family, especially her children and grandchildren.
