JoAnn Shaw, 80, of Bismarck, passed away on July 14, 2023 in a Bismarck Care Center. A graveside service will be held on Friday, July 21, at 10:30 a.m. at Sunset Memorial Gardens.
JoAnn was born on March 10, 1943 on a farm in Blue Grass, ND to Fred and Rose (Mindt) Sorge. In 1946 their family moved to Bismarck. In 1961 she graduated from Bismarck High School. JoAnn worked at the Bismarck Tribune from 1961-1963. She met John Estes and they were married on Oct 11, 1963. Together they lived in Houston, TX, Whittier, CA and in 1970 they moved to Coeur d’Alene, ID. JoAnn worked for North Shore Bracks and Auto Suply and the Bookstore before retiring in 2005.
She met George Shaw and were married on Nov. 11, 1984 in Bismarck and remained in Bismarck from 1984-1988. JoAnn worked for Bergs Auto Supply. In 1988 they moved to Idaho. George passed away on Oct. 22, 2010. In 2016 JoAnn moved to Edgewood Assistant Living and in 2021 moved to memory Care.
She is survived by her sister, Carol (Louie) Baltrusch, 5 nieces, Linda (Ron) Gray, Tami Knowles, Della Akin, Kim (Todd) Bloom, Ronda Baltrusch, 1 nephew, Kyle (Jen) Baltrusch, her dear friend, Gina Marvin.
She was preceded in death by her husband George, her parents, Rose and Fred Sorge, her mother and father-in- law, sister and brother-in-law, Buck and Eileen Swab.
