Our beloved husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, uncle, brother began his journey into the spirit world on July 11, 2023. Alfred Virgil Blue Earth – Khuwa Áupi, passed away at Sanford Health Bismarck, ND.
A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, July 15, 2023 at 11:00 AM at the Red Gym, Cannon Ball, ND. The burial and lunch will follow the service.
A Visitation will be held on Friday, July 14, 2023 from 6:00 to 7:30 PM with a Rosary beginning at 7:30 PM.
Alfred was born in Mandan, ND on August 20, 1948, to Alice (Blue Earth) Yellow Eyes. After graduating high school from Standing Rock he entered the US Army in 1967, attending basic training in Fort Lewis, WA. Upon completion of basic training Alfred was stationed in Fort Leonard Wood, MO and would spend a year in Vietnam.
After serving his country and earning an honorable discharge from the US Army, Alfred pursued a career in Law Enforcement. Known as “Blue” by his law enforcement brothers for 25 years he served as a Police Officer, as well as a Criminal Investigator for the Bureau of Indian Affairs. He successfully completed the Federal Law Enforcement Training Center course in Artesia, New Mexico, he then continued on to obtain his Associates of Arts Degree in Criminal Justice. One of his biggest career accomplishments was being nominated, selected, and graduating from FBI National Academy in Quantico, VA in 1983. He was detailed throughout Indian Country during his career in Law Enforcement always welcomed, respected, making friends, and meeting new people along the way.
He eventually retired from Law Enforcement and became a full-time grandpa. His grandchildren were joys in life, and they would often be on random adventures together. He took his grandsons on camp trips to Fort Lincoln during re-enactment days. He enjoyed driving around town with one or several of his grandkids looking for Stick-Man, lost pets, going to the Family Dollar, Henry’s or Tim’s, and/or the quick mart. He would attend their many activities: Christmas concerts, spring concerts, basketball games, football games, soccer games, music programs, and award ceremonies/banquets.
Although he was busy living his life and reaching for his goals, he found time to marry Emma Jean Moses on October 1, 1971. They became an instant family with their 2 sons: Donald and Ronald Blevins. They later added a daughter, Darcie and another son, Adrien. As their children grew and went on family vacations Rueben White Bull, Jr become Alfred’s “hunka” son; making him a father of 5. All 5 of his children will greatly miss their dad and all the fun times they had with their dad.
Alfred will be greatly missed by his wife, children, grandkids, and great grandkids. Those who survive Alfred are his wife, Emma Jean (EJ); sons, Donald Blevins, Ronald Blevins, Adrien Blue Earth all of Fort Yates, and Rueben White Bull, Jr Rapid City, SD; his daughter, Darcie Blue Earth (Dung Nguyen) Bismarck, ND; brothers, Guy (Vicky) Ireland of Cannon Ball, Adrian (Peggy) Ireland of Williston, ND; sisters Mae Allison, Bernice (LeRoy) Laundreaux, Wanda Miner all of Cannon Ball; grandchildren, Kimberlee, Donni Leigh, Chad, Don Jr., Mataya, Charles, Emilee, Jayden, Ryan, Elden, Isaac, Shianne, Jedi, Wiyetu, Vannyka, Paxtyn, Samuel, Nicholas, Aries, and Ava; 18 great-grandchildren; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his grandma, (Mabel Blue Earth); mom, Alice Yellow Eyes; brothers, Wallace Ireland and Sylvan Yellow Eyes; sister, Sallee Yellow Eyes; mother-in-law, Gladys Two Horses; sisters-in-law, Jewel Thunder Hawk, DeRae Silk; brothers-in-law, Veryle Grey Bull, Duane Silk, Jerry Silk; nephews: Adrian Ireland, Jr, Bucky Ireland, Alfred Ireland, Chuck Silk, Dean Miner, Richard Allison, Donavan Ireland, Ryan Black Dog and Derek Hart; and niece, Veronica Thunder Hawk.
