Richard Floyd Severson was born November 21, 1954, in Minot, North Dakota to John and Neva (Cuddigan) Severson. Dick grew up in Minot and graduated from Minot High School with the class of 1972. Following graduation, Richard attended college in Wahpeton at NDSCS and Minot State.

Dick was hired on with the Burlington Northern Railroad in December of 1974 with his sister Shirlee. He served as a brakeman and switchman early in his career out of Mandan, ND.

Dick was once married to Mari Hertz. This union was blessed with two children, Megan and Eli.  They made their home in Mandan, ND.

Dick moved to Minot in 1988. He was joined in marriage to his loving wife Marian Palmer on Valentines Day. They shared the next twenty-six years of married life together side by side.

Dick continued his work on the railroad in Minot, retiring as a conductor in November of 2014 after 40 years of service. He was proud to have committed to a high degree of safety, which resulted in an injury-free career.

Richard enjoyed spending time on the lake and time at their cabin on Lake Metigoshe. He enjoyed fishing in local lakes and hunting with family and friends. He was a collector of guns but especially enjoyed riding Harley motorcycles, woodworking, small engine mechanics, and driving his speedboat. Marian recalls a beautiful trip they shared for his son Eli’s wedding in Mexico.
