Susann “Sue” “Susie” Elizabeth Greff (Herdebu) passed away July 20, 2021. Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Friday, July 23 at Parkway Funeral Service, 2330 Tyler Pkwy, Bismarck. Visitation will be held one-hour prior.
Burial will be held at Baldwin Cemetery.
She was born Jan 26, 1948 in Bismarck to Carl and Gladys Herdebu. She was raised on a farm near Baldwin and later attended College in Dickinson to teach Elementary school and German. In 1973 she married David Greff of Mott.
In life Sue wore many hats: daughter, sister, wife, mother, friend, crafter, quilter, cook, teacher, farmer, caretaker, certified teaser. If Sue never teased you, you never met her. Sue radiated kindness and had a positive resilience that was unmatched.
Details dealt with, lets enjoy the dessert. Sue loved her animals and took care of them all, even as an adult feeding a wild bird for a good while until her mother pointed out there might be good reason it hadn’t moved in weeks. She rescued every abandoned dog that came her way and healed the broken heart of every single one.
She loved her friends and spending time with them, going on road trips with them and couldn’t wait to get to Fargo for a shopping weekend. Or Beulah, really. RIP Pamida. She also enjoyed attending the state fair and every 4-H building and exhibit. Medora was one of her most beloved experiences year after year.
Taking the opportunity to tease her mother or sisters-in-law was something she took upon herself with great pride and those gems we all hold close to our hearts and our funny bones.
She loved spending time with her son. Sue was able to experience things across the West she treasured always, like dipping her feet in a mountain stream in Montana until numb, visiting Taos Pueblo whereafter she regularly prayed their river would never go dry, and of course, scouring every fabric store she crossed along the way.
Sue is survived by her sister, son, granddaughter, grandson and Japanese son. Certainly, someone is getting an earful right now that she needed more time with her brand-new grandson. Let’s not forget her nieces and their children. She was preceded in death by her father, mother and Elijah.
Her family would like to say the deepest of thanks to all her caretakers later in life. She welcomed them into her life and made them a part of her extended family. They kept her light burning so brightly that she was able to experience love as only a grandmother can.
Sue would never say this out loud, but she thought it. Strokes and tumors are awful. Go hug the ones you love and tease them a little. Life is to be lived. In lieu of flowers please take someone out for a coke or go do something you enjoy that you’ve been putting off.
Rarely would Susie consider letting anyone leave before the 14th goodbye, so if you feel that pull to stay a little longer, we understand. Goodbye, goodbye, goodbye.
