Michelle Anne Bowley, doulos of Christ, was born to David and Maureen Leney on April 30th, 1970 in Lowell, Massachusetts. She attended Notre Dame High School in her hometown and later studied at the University of Lowell. In May of 1992, Michelle joined the United States Air Force where she would proudly serve her country for the next five years at Minot Air Force Base in North Dakota. While serving in the Air Force, she fell in love with Matthew Wayne Bowley and married him on December 26th, 1992, in a private ceremony in Great Falls, Montana. The two would be blessed with over thirty years of joyful marriage until the day of her passing. Together, they raised two sons, Connor (1994) and Colin (1997) Bowley. After her time of service ended, Michelle devoted herself to being a caring wife and mother, as well as to her career as the produce manager at Marketplace Foods in Minot, ND where she distinguished herself through her exceptional work.
Her faith in Christ was always an essential part of her life due to her Catholic upbringing, but her faith became rejuvenated in 2006 when she came to a saving knowledge of Jesus Christ. She served as a faithful member of Eagles Wings Community Fellowship and Crossroads Baptist Church in Minot, ND. There she enriched the lives of the other members with her knowledge of apologetics and the Greek New Testament through classes she taught and private conversations she shared. She also had a passion for missions work and traveled to Romania and Chad to share the Gospel. Her love of the Word of God is made evident by her worn, Greek New Testament Bible, with which she requested she be buried.
After a long battle with a rare disease, stiff person syndrome, she passed away quietly on June 16th, 2023, at her home in Marion, Iowa. Her faith in Christ and love for her family never waivered throughout her years-long battle with the disease. She will be remembered and deeply cherished by her family and friends: husband, Matthew Wayne Bowley; sons, Connor and Colin Bowley; father, David Leney; sisters, Melissa and Nicolle Leney; daughters-in-law, Kayla and Chelsey Bowley, as well as her many other friends and family from Massachusetts, North Dakota, and Iowa. She was preceded in death by her mother, Maureen Leney.
Private services will be held for friends and family with burial and full military honors at Oak Shade Cemetery in Iowa.
