Catherine was born July 9, 1926 in New Leipzig, ND, to William and Katherina (Hochhalter) Rieger. She received her education at New Leipzig public schools and Dickinson Teachers College.
Catherine married Herman Grosz on June 22, 1947 in New Leipzig. They farmed the family farm for twelve years before moving to Bismarck. She was a stay at home mom until her youngest was in school. She sold Avon and then worked at JC Penney until she retired.
She was a faithful member of Grace Point Church, teaching Sunday school, helping with AWANA, White Cross and serving in other areas. She loved the Lord and read through the Bible many times. She was a mighty prayer warrior for her family. We remember her listening to her favorite Christian radio stations and television programs.
Catherine liked to do embroidery and sew quilts. Family members were blessed to be the recipients of her handy work. In the past few years, she enjoyed coloring and working on word searches. Reading was another thing she liked to do.
She enjoyed her grandchildren, great grandchildren, and step-great-grandchildren and was always interested in what they were doing.
Catherine is survived by two sons, Gerald (Laurie), Timothy (Lisa), and one daughter, Susan (Gary) Kurtenbach, all of Bismarck; six grandchildren, Travis (Wendy) Grosz, Columbia, MO; Jon (Angie) Grosz, Vancouver, WA; Julae Grosz, Chattanooga, TN; Kelly (Peter) Wall, Steinbach, MB, Canada; Aaron (Kelsey) Kurtenbach, Rapid City, SD; Jordan Grosz, Bismarck, ND; two step-daughters, Brandy (Lee) Strand, Fargo, ND and Ashley (Hollis) Stavn, Bismarck; five great-grandchildren, Nathanael Grosz, Columbia, MO, Savannah Wall, Carrie Wall, Anthony Wall all of Steinbach, MB, Canada and Adalyn Kurtenbach, Rapid City, SD; six step-great-grandchildren; Corbin Rislov, Elsa Rislov, both of Vancouver, WA, Theodore Strand, Fargo, ND, Sawyer Stavn, River Stavn, Meadow Stavn, all of Bismarck; three sisters-in-law, Esther Haas, Elgin, ND, Sally Grosz, Moorhead, MN, Janice Vetter, Elgin, ND and numerous nieces and nephews.
