Betty Haskins

Betty Joanne Haskins, 86, Bismarck, formerly of Sherwood, Kenmare and Minot, passed away on May 10th at St. Gabriel Community surrounded by her family.

Betty was born December 6,1936, at Stanley, North Dakota, the daughter of Frank and Ruth (Mattson) Lindberg. She was raised near Lostwood and received her education at a rural school in Lostwood Township and then graduated from Kenmare High School in 1954. After graduation, Betty was employed at the Bank of Kenmare.

On June 3, 1955, Betty was united in marriage to Gerald Haskins at St. Agnes Catholic Church in Kenmare. From this union 6 children were born. They made their home in Sherwood for 21 years, then moved to Kenmare, all the while farming. Betty and Jerry lived in Kenmare until 1983, when they moved to Minot. While living in Minot, Betty was employed at Homesteader’s Restaurant as a cashier/hostess for 28 years. Jerry passed away March 14, 2012.

Betty was a longtime member of St. John the Apostle Catholic Church in Minot, where she was active with the Confraternity of Christian Mothers. She was active in North Dakota Right to Life, a charter member of Compassionate Friends and a member of the PEO Chapter L.

Betty’s hobbies and interests included: spending time with family, especially at Strawberry Lake, reading faith-filled books, playing Scrabble and cards, and enjoyed traveling. She never missed an episode of Wheel of Fortune.

Betty passed on her strong faith to her family by demonstrating how to handle adversity with faith and grace. She loved serving God by reading scripture during Mass and being an Extraordinary Minister of Holy Communion. She felt so blessed to read scripture at Mass in Capernaum in the Holy Lands at the House of St. Peter where Jesus lived for three years.

Her loving family includes: her children: Shelley (Garry) Fritel, Spokane, WA; Janelle (Tim) Michelsen, Bismarck; Todd (Lisa) Haskins, Minot; daughter-in-law: Connie (Ed) Gregoire, Bismarck; grandchildren: Mac, Marty (Kelly), Mindy Haskins (Jason Young) and Mitchell (Katie) Haskins, Michael (Cristina) Gregoire; Garth (Adeline) Fritel, Nick Fritel; William (Brittany) Michelsen, Tasha (Matthew)  Schumacher; Trail, Tate and Tia Haskins; great-grandchildren: Noah, Cohen, Everett, Sophia, Camdyn, Daphne, Tovah, Gabriel, Piper, Lucy, Baylee, Jason Jr., Francesca; brother: Duane (Janice) Lindberg; nephew: Dan Lindberg; niece: LuAnn Lindberg.

Betty was preceded in death by her parents; loving husband of 56 years, Jerry; children: Baby Girl Haskins, Timothy Haskins and Terry Haskins; great grandson: Parker Haskins.

Mass of Christian Burial:  May 26, 2023 at 10:30 am in St John the Apostle Catholic Church, Minot.
Interment: Rosehill Memorial Park, Minot.
Visitation: May 25th from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m. with a Vigil Prayer service to follow at 7:00p.m. on Thursday all in Thomas Family Funeral Home, Minot.
Memorials: In lieu of flowers or plants, memorials will go to St. John the Apostle Catholic Church or the North Dakota Right to Life.
