Ruben “Bud” Kovar, 97, formally of Flasher, passed away on Tuesday, May 9, 2023 at Elm Crest Manor in New Salem.  A private family service will be held at a later date.

Bud was born on May 2, 1926 to Adolph and Myrtle (Hewitt) Kovar.  He grew up on the family farm which was started by grandpa in 1882.  He attended a country school until 8th grade then took over the farm.  Bud married Arlette Jorgenson on May 22, 1950.

He continued to farm with his son Ron until they moved to Flasher in the winter of 2010 due to Arlettes declining health.  Bud was on numerous boards in the community which included the Fasher school board, Morton county weed board, Lower Heart River Irrigation board, Flasher weighing association, Flasher fire/ambulance board.

Last year he enjoyed celebrating with Dolly Feland and Ed Novotny their 90th class reunion of starting first grade together at Big Bend School.  Ruben was nicknamed Buddy because he was loved by all.

Left to share his memory are his 5 children, Luke, Ron (Lyndell), Tim (Lori), Debbie and Patty (Randy) Bohe, 8 grandchildren, 22 great grandchildren and brother-in-law, Leonard Brilz.

He is preceded in death by his wife Arlette, brother Louie (Minnie), sisters, Amy (Ray Anderson), Bonnie and Deanie, grandchildren, Dustin and Denny Black and great grandchild Nathan Kovar.

The family would like to thank Harriet Toman for all her cards and letters and the wonderful staff at Elm Crest Manor for all their care the last 6 years.
