Joseph (Joe) Wandler

Joseph “Joe” Wandler, 87, New England, died on Sunday, April 23, 2023 at West River Regional Medical Center, Hettinger. Joseph’s Liturgy of Word Service will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, April 29, 2023 at Ladbury Funeral Service, Dickinson with Fr. Dennis Schafer presiding. Interment will take place at St. Mary’s Cemetery, New England. Visitation will be on Friday from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Ladbury Funeral Service with a rosary and vigil at 7 p.m. with Deacon Bob Zent presiding. Visitation will continue one hour prior to the service on Saturday.

Joseph Wandler was born on July 5, 1935 in Schefield, the son of Martin and Margaret (Wanner) Wandler. He was raised and educated in the Schefield area. At the age of 14 the family moved 14 miles northwest of New England where they raised cattle, farmed and later going into dairy for 37 years.

Joe was united in marriage to Agnes Splichal on June 23, 1958 at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church, Dickinson. They moved to New England where he worked various jobs and later going to work for Northern Improvement until his retirement.

He was a member of St. Pius Verein. In his free time, he enjoyed welding and building things on the farm. Joe loved his grandchildren dearly! He will be missed by all of us and will always be close to our hearts.

Joe is survived by his wife, Aggie; sons, Mark Wandler, Belfield, Thomas Wandler, New England, Bob Wandler, Gladstone, and Michael Wandler, New England; grandchildren, Ashley (Joe) Schorsch, Devon Wandler, Abby Wandler, Lindsey (Aaron) Hetzel, Scott (Hannah) Wandler and Kari Wandler; great-grandchildren, Elloise Schorsch, Eleanor “Ella” Wandler and Ettalyn May Wandler; and sister, Alena Broxmeyer, Bismarck.

He was preceded in death by his parents; step-mother, Mary Ficek Wandler; infant son, Clint Martin Wandler; and siblings, Alphonse and Katherine.
