Marjorie ‘Marge’ Lois Ostdahl, 86, Minot, died on April 21, 2023 in her daughter’s home. Her family was blessed to care for her in her final days, giving us the opportunity to celebrate and honor her as our mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother.

Marge was born on May 2, 1936 in Stanley, ND to Rueben and Gladys (Arnold) Norstedt . She was raised in Stanley, graduating from Stanley High School in 1956, where she spoke fondly of her days as a majorette. The friendships she made in high school continued throughout her lifetime. She was employed at the Mountrail County Welfare Office and Dakota Drug, where she enjoyed making Whirl-a-whips. As a family they loved spending time at their cabin at Lake Carlyle in Canada.

Marge fell in love with a Palermo boy, Leonard (Buddy) Ostdahl. They were united in marriage on November 2, 1958 and after two years in Stanley they made their home in Minot where she was a devoted mother to their three children, Tami, Teri, and Tim. Family was her highest priority and together they enjoyed many years of camping. Marge was known for her “gift to gab”, her love of dancing, working in her yard, and her on-the-go fearless spirit. She was employed at the Chamber of Commerce for a number of years. She also assisted with the operation of the family business, Coffin and Ostdahl Painting and Decorating, working as the bookkeeper until 1996 when she retired. Leonard died in 2014.

The greatest joy for Marge was becoming a grandmother and great-grandmother. Her love and support for each of her eight grandkids was extraordinary. She was their playmate, cheerleader, and greatest advocate. Many of their friends adopted her as Grandma Marge. She cherished each of her four great-grandchildren. She was incredibly proud of Codey and her school accomplishments. Dakota held a special place in her heart and the two of them had an unbreakable bond. Logan simply made her laugh with his goofy grin and mischievous looks. When learning she would become great grandma again with the birth of Jersey, she cried tears of joy.

Marge was a member of Vincent United Methodist Church. For the past two years, Marge was a resident of The View in Minot, where she created new friendships and enjoyed  conversations with her dinner pals. The family would like to thank the staff at the View, Souris Valley Care Center, and Trinity Hospital for their exceptional care of Marge.

Marge is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Tami and Larry Spiros and her daughter-in-law Becky Hillerud-Johnson. Grandchildren: Nick (Nette) Spiros, Kyle Spiros, Sydney Spiros (Trevor Bigger), Drew Johnson, Lucas Johnson, Grayson Ostdahl, Sterling Ostdahl, and Quinton Ostdahl. Great-Grandchildren: Codey Irwin, Dakota Bigger, Logan Bigger and Jersey Spiros. Siblings: Loretta Joern, Larry Norstedt, and Allan Norstedt. Numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family and long-time family friend Karen Hennessy.
