Matthew Dana Erhart of Minot, ND passed away peacefully in his home on March 14, 2023 at the age of 43. Matthew was born in Bozeman, MT to Kathy and Dennis Erhart and graduated from high school in McClusky, ND with all the love and support from his foster parents, Kathleen and Gerald Kitto.
He was such a talented sportsman, a hunter, fisherman, and all-around athlete from a very young age. We called him an athletic genius. No matter what sport it was, he could play it; and play it well. He had a strong passion for sports, and he instilled that passion and talent into his son, Cade.
Matthew was united in marriage to Melissa (Zimbelman) Erhart December 30, 2012. They later divorced.
In the most recent years of Matthew’s life, he met and fell in love with Misty Volk. They both found their forever person. She was the love of his life and his very best friend. Those two were inseparable. They did everything together but loved most, watching Cade play all of his sports and spending time with Cade.
Matt loved his cat, Trigger. When Misty brought her cat Gizmo into his life, he wasn’t afraid to let everyone know Gizmo was his new favorite. He was welcomed with open arms into the Volk family. They loved him immediately and he loved them just the same. Misty’s three year old nephew, Patrick, became a very special person in Matt’s life. The bond between the two was the sweetest thing.
Matthew will be remembered for his stories, his unique personality, and his willingness to always offer a helping hand. He was the kind that would do anything for anyone, if that meant spending hours in the garage just tinkering, or throwing a ball with Matt, because Matt could never sit still. He was always on the go and provided constant entertainment.
The attempts to process his loss will forever linger in our hearts. But it gives us great comfort knowing Matt is at peace. He is reunited with all those that left us too early and we know that they were there waiting to take him home.
Survivors include his sons; Cade Erhart and Jase Zimbelman, daughter, Madison Lovell, sister, Michelle Shepherd and brother, Michael Erhart. His sister-in-law, Megan Erhart and nieces: Skyler, Lexi, Mya, Peyton, Cheyenne and nephews: Tanner, Rickey, and Jeremiah, his forever love, Misty Volk, foster mom and dad; Gerald and Kathleen Kitto, foster sister; Kelli Bopp and foster nephew; Gryphon.
Matthew was preceded in death by his parents; Dennis and Kathy Erhart, brother; Dennis Lee (DUDE) Erhart, both maternal and paternal grandparents; Leo and Irene Erhart and Millie Hoard and Kenneth Trebelcock.
