Mary Ann Hanson of Mandan, ND died May 16, 2020 after a short battle with cancer and complications of the kidney.

Mary Ann died peacefully at home at the age of 90 with family and her pastor at her side.

A Memorial Service will be held at 1:00 PM on Friday, July 16, 2021 at Mandan United Methodist Church, Mandan, ND.  Burial will be at the North Dakota Veterans Cemetery at 3:00 PM. A Livestream of the Service will be available on the Bismarck Funeral Home Facebook page.

Mary Ann was born November 12, 1929 in Goodrich, ND to Hulda M. and Leonard E. Martin. She grew up on a farm in Goodrich and graduated from Goodrich High School in 1946. She attended North Dakota State University. She married Harry C. Hanson on January 4, 1948 in Casselton, ND, where they lived until relocating to Mandan in 1957.

Mary Ann went to work as a legal secretary to William C. Kelsch in 1961 and retired from the Kelsch Law Firm as Office Manager in 1994. She was an active member of the Bismarck-Mandan Legal Secretaries for many years. After Harry died in 1996, she lived independently in Mandan with her German Shepherds. She and Harry were founding members of the Mandan United Methodist Church. She sang in the choir and was treasurer of the United Methodist Women. She was devout in her faith and in her convictions and gave generously to others. She looked forward to being with God.

Those surviving and sharing MaryAnn’s life are her daughter, Kathi Hanson (Marc Strahn), Story, WY; daughter-in-law, Upin Hanson, Apache Junction, AZ; grandson, Cody Hanson, Apache Junction, AZ; great grandsons, Anthony Hanson, Chandler, AZ, and Daniel Hanson, Apache Junction, AZ; special cousins -Marion Martin, Mandan, ND; Michelle Martin, Bismarck, ND; Mike Martin and family, Anoka, MN; and Andrea Radke (Darren), Bismarck, ND; sisters-in-law, Darlene Mickelson, Fargo, ND and Harriet Hanson, Boise, ID; brother-in-law, Elmer Hanson (Sandra), Puyallup, WA; the ”Lil” girls; the Friday Lunch Bunch; her many friends; extended Church family and numerous cousins.

Mary Ann was preceded in death by her parents, her husband and her son, Steven C. Hanson.

In lieu of flowers, Memorials should be sent to the Mandan United Methodist Church Youth Fund, 610 12th St NW, Mandan, ND 58554.
