Leonard Krantz

November 8, 1943 – February 9, 2023

Leonard Earl Krantz was born on November 8, 1943, to Earl and Ernestine (Opp) Krantz in Garrison, ND. He died on February 9, 2023, at the Knife River Care Center in Beulah, ND at the age of 79.

Leonard’s family consisted of nine girls and two boys. He grew up in the Garrison area and graduated from Garrison High School in 1962. A short time later, he met a cute young lady from Benedict, ND who stole his heart. He married Sharlene Weishaar on March 15, 1964, at the Garrison Bible Church. They made their home in Underwood, ND. To this union, five children were born, Brian, Amy, Michael, Jason, and Heidi.

Leonard worked various jobs throughout his life. He managed an elevator, ran a gas station and drove bulk truck, and eventually began working for the ND Department of Transportation. He retired in 2006 after 23 years of service.

Leonard was a loving husband, father, and friend. He enjoyed spending time and visiting with family. He liked to pass time doing crossword and jigsaw puzzles, Sudoku, coloring or playing games. But his favorite thing to do was drive. He loved a good road trip or even just tootling around town.

Though Leonard struggled with memory/dementia issues the last few years of his life, he still maintained his sense of humor and his appetite for sweets. He will truly be missed by all who knew and loved him.

Leonard is survived by his wife of 58 years, Sharlene, Underwood, ND; daughter, Amy (David) VanSweringen, Minot, ND; son, Michael, Underwood, ND; son, Jason (Annette Moos), Mandan, ND; daughter, Heidi, Underwood, ND; granddaughter, Alicia (Corey) Bittner, Garrison, ND; sisters, Joan Chernik, Texas, Cletus (Delbert) Sayler, Bismarck, ND, Velma (Arlo) Weishaar, Benedict, ND, Luella Krantz, Garrison, ND, Patty Friese, Garrison, ND; sister-in-law, Julieann Krantz, Oregon; along with many nieces and nephews.

Leonard was preceded in death by his infant son, Brian; parents, Earl and Ernestine; father and mother in-law, Art and Elsie Weishaar; brother, Milton Krantz; sisters, Joyce (Arnold) Sand, Gladys Krantz, Rachel (Lee) Porter, Teresa Krantz; brothers-in-law, Pete Chernik and Rick Friese.
