Dorothy C. Brandt, 88, Minot, died Tuesday, January 31, 2023 in a Garrison hospital.
Dorothy was born May 5, 1934 in Bottineau, ND to Arthur and Clara (Kaeding) Kiesow. She was raised and educated in Kramer, ND, graduating with the class of 52’. She continued her secondary education at Minot State University.
Dorothy was united in marriage to Reuben Brandt on December 7, 1952 in Kramer. They made their home in the communities of Glenburn and then Riverdale ND. Where family wore out that screen door from constant comings and goings and they both tended to a large garden until Reubens passing on March 1, 2009. Then she filled her days with walks along the Missouri River and feeding the ducks at the fish pond. Dorothy moved to Minot shortly after in 2013.
Dorothy was employed at the Minot Air Force Base as a sales clerk for twenty eight years until she retired, July 22 1994.
Dorothy was very devoted to the church wherever she was at. From the most recent, Our Savior Lutheran Church in Minot; Hope Lutheran in Glenburn and St. Andrews Lutheran Church in Riverdale where she played the organ for the congregations. She joined Bible Studies, volunteered at Camp of the Cross and was affectionately known as ‘Grandma’ to the kids at Underwood School where she volunteered her time as well.
She was involved with Red Hat Society and will always be remembered for “Aunt Dorothy’s” delicious buns and contagious smile.
Dorothy was loved and will be missed by so many, including the amazing staff at Garrison 3rd floor nursing facility that made her as comfortable as she could be until her last moments.
Dorothy is survived by her children: Vance Brandt (Tammy Young), Miles City, MT, Bradley Brandt (Kari), Parshall, ND, Laurel Brandt (Vick Adams), Chandler, AZ, Janet Nickle (Rod), Surrey, ND, and Douglas Brandt, Chandler, AZ; 12 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren; 2 great great-grandchildren; brothers-in-law: Owen Brenden, Fargo, ND, William Andersen, Perham, MN; along with numerous nieces and nephews.
Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents, husband, daughter Kathryn Paul, sisters; Norma Brenden and Judy Andersen; brother; Gary Kiesow and his wife Charlene.
Visitation/Book signing: 4:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. May 4, 2023 at Thomas Family Funeral Home, Minot.
Funeral Service: 1:00 p.m. May 5, 2023 at Our Savior Lutheran Church, Minot.
Interment: Zion Lutheran Church Cemetery, Kramer, ND at 4:00 p.m.
In lieu of plants and flowers memorials are preferred to Camp of the Cross and St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital.
