Karen Borud, 76, Minot and formerly of Berthold died on Tuesday, January 24, 2023 in her home following a courageous battle with breast cancer. Her loving family was at her side.
Karen Lea Benedict was born on November 18, 1946 in Minot, ND to George “Bud” and Pauline (Hornberger) Benedict. She was raised and educated in Berthold, graduated from Berthold High School in 1964 and attended the University of North Dakota for a short time.
Karen married Larry Borud, her high school sweetheart on December 27, 1965 at the Berthold Baptist Church. They made their home in Berthold where they owned and operated Bud’s Food Market and she was a piano teacher. In addition, she assisted her husband with his ministry through Shiloh Christian Fellowship and Northland Harvest Church both in Minot. Karen and Larry moved to Minot in 2004 where Karen had continued to assist her husband with his ministry and taught piano lessons.
Karen was a longtime member of the Minot Piano Teachers Association and a former member of the Souris Valley Special Education Board of Directors. She especially enjoyed flower gardening, walking and juicing.
