Bruce E. Pier

Bruce E. Pier, 79, Dickinson, died on Wednesday, January 11, 2023 at CHI St. Alexius Dickinson. Bruce’s Funeral Service will be at 1:30 p.m., Saturday, January 14, 2023 at St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church, Dickinson with Rev. Lisa Lewton officiating. Interment will take place at St. Joseph’s Cemetery, Dickinson. Visitation will be from 5 p.m. to 6 p.m. on Friday at Ladbury Funeral Service, Dickinson with a prayer service at 6 p.m. Visitation will continue one hour prior to the service at the church on Saturday.

Bruce was born on January 24, 1943 in Watertown, SD, the son of Edward and Ethel (Beiger) Pier. He was raised and educated in Huron, SD. He went on to graduate from South Dakota State University in 1965 with a degree in Civil Engineering. He served six years in the SD National Guard.

Bruce married Glenda Aker in 1968 in Rapid City, SD. He later married Carol (Winter) Parks in 1983 in Mobridge, SD., with Carol’s death taking place in 1991. Bruce was then united in marriage to Lucille (Billings) Yon in 1992 in Dickinson.

He worked for the SD Highway Dept., as the city engineer for the city of Dickinson for several years, and the city administrator of Pierre, SD for nine years. Following his retirement, he moved back to Dickinson in 2003.

He was a member of the Elks. He loved texting and keeping up with all of his kids, grandkids and extended family. Bruce loved sports and visiting with his coffee buddies.

Bruce is survived by his wife, Lucille; his children, Lezlie (Kory) Linster, Lakeland, FL, Robbyn (Brad) Hanstad, Frisco, TX, and Tom Pier, Rapid City; step-children, Deb Steffan, Todd Parks, Randy (Brenda) Yon, Amy (Garett) Robson, Nancy (Blane) Nitschke, and Patty (Kevin) Baumgard; eight grandkids; numerous step-grandkids and step-great-grandkids.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Carol; his parents; and his brother, Duane (Marie) Pier.
