Ronald Jan, 83, Minot, formerly of New Town and Harvey, died Sunday, November 27, 2022, in a Minot assisted living facility.
Ronald was born May 15, 1939, in Sioux Falls, SD to Charles and Mabel (Paulson) Jan. He spent his early childhood in Sioux Falls and Ft. Pierre, SD moving with his family to New Town, ND in 1952. He attended middle school in Van Hook, Sanish and completed his high school years back in New Town, graduating with the New Town High School Class of 1957. He continued his secondary education at Minot State Teacher’s College earning a teaching degree in secondary education in 1963.
Ron was united in marriage to Eldred Sharon Vedquam on June 15, 1965 in Minot. They followed his career path.
Ron started his teaching career in Tioga, ND. He moved on to Berthold, ND where he taught math for three years. He spent a year with Bismarck Public Schools as a substitute teacher the settled in the community of Harvey, ND teaching junior high math and keyboarding. They returned to Minot in 1981. He continued his career in Harvey until 1997, completing his career at Our Redeemer’s Christian School, retiring after 34 years of dedication to education in 1998.
Eldred died on July 9, 2000.
Ron was a member of Bethel Free Lutheran Church in Minot, serving as church auditor and singing in the church choir. He was a past member of the Minot Moose and Eagle’s Aerie in Harvey. He spent his active years in the outdoors hunting and fishing. Ron enjoyed spending time on his computer in his spare time. He will be remembered for his kindness to others, sense of humor, quick wit, love for math, phone conversations, emails, and watching sports on TV, especially the NDSU Bison football games in his later years.
Ron is survived by his children Karla Jan and Steve Jan, both of Minot; sister-in-law Lola Jan, Jamestown, ND and niece Kathy (Scott) Goeringer, Denver, CO and nephew Mike Jan, Jamestown, ND.
Ron was preceded in death by his parents, wife Eldred and brother Donald Jan.

Interment: Sunset Memorial Gardens, Minot
Visitation: Thursday, December 1, 2022 from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the Thomas Family Funeral Home, Minot.
Memorials are preferred to Bethel Free Lutheran Church, Minot or to an organization of the donor’s choice.
