Kathleen Kay Lafleur

 Kathleen Lafleur, 78, Minot, died Monday, October 31, 2022, in a Minot hospital.

Kathleen was born in Cherokee, Iowa June 9, 1944 the daughter of Thomas and Wilma (Lecband) Flanigan. She was raised in the area along with her four siblings. She graduated salutatorian of her class at AHS, 1962, Aurelia, IA.  Kathleen continued her education at St. Joseph’s School of Nursing in Sioux City, Iowa for two years.

Kathleen was united in marriage June 20, 1964 at Cherokee, Iowa to Donald LaFleur. They settled in Cherokee, for a time, then moved to Sioux City, Iowa. Together they raised five children.

In January 1977, Kathleen and Donald moved to Fargo, ND where Don took a job with NPS, Northern Plains Steel, then later; after a move to Minot, North Dakota in 1984, Don and Kathleen together established their own business “Specialized Purchasing Inc.” where Kathleen served as the secretary and bookkeeper.

Most recently, Kathy took care of the office needs and the bookkeeping at Coldwell Banker 1st Minot Realty; a position she has held for the past 32 years.

Kathy loved cooking; she had an exhausting number of favorite recipes. She also loved to raise red roses, but mostly enjoyed spending time with family and her many friends.

She is survived by her husband of 58 years, Donald; sons; Michael (Dawn) LaFleur, Riverside, CA, Bradley LaFleur, Fargo, ND, Tim (Danielle) LaFleur, Souix Falls, SD, Donald (Lisa) LaFleur, Bismarck, ND; 17 Grandchildren and 6 Great Grandchildren; sister, Rosalie Schtichting, Cherokee, IA; brother, Robert (Janice), Flanigan, Sioux City, IA.

Kathleen was preceded in death by her Parents, brother, Tommy, sister Elaine and her daughter, Wendy in 2011.

Family wants to recognize Tawny Guist for her endless compassion shared with Kathy as her primary caregiver these past five years and all the staff at 1st Light Home Care. They all went up and beyond to care for Kathy in her final days.

A Public book signing will be held Monday, November 7, 2022 from 4:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m.  at Thomas Family Funeral Home, Minot.
