Doneta Sem Skinn, 82, Minot formerly of Underwood, ND, died Sunday, October 30, 2022, in a Garrison care facility.

Doneta was born April 25, 1940, in Underwood, ND to Louis and Alma (Deckert) Janke. She grew up on the family farm near Underwood attended school at Underwood High School, graduating with the class of 1958.

Doneta was united in marriage to Lowell Sem June 23rd, 1962 in Bismarck, ND, and divorced in 1986.  This union was blessed with two children, Kelli and Danny.  They made their home on Del Nor Drive west of Minot in 1977 where Doneta continued to call home until her passing. Although she lived her last years in several Care Facilities, Del Nor Drive was always her home.

She moved to Minot and began her lifelong career in the transportation industry, first as a Secretary at Hart Motor in February 1960. She moved on to Lewis Truck Lines working in the office from 1965 until 1989 and for Yellow Freight until 1997. Doneta concluded her working years at the Amtrak Depot in Minot, working as a station agent from July 1998 until retiring in 2013.  She loved Amtrak and received the Presidents Service and Safety Award from the company.  She was recognized for this award at a ceremony in Washington D.C.

Doneta was united in marriage to Ronald Skinn on May 21, 1999 at Zion Lutheran Church in Minot. They made their home in Minot, sharing companionship, love and family. Ron passed away in 2006.

Doneta was a charter member Peace Lutheran Church in Burlington. She also was active in the American Business Women’s Association and Teamsters.

When not busy with work, she enjoyed time in the garden, restoring antique furniture, along with some reading and a little travel with family and friends to the casino. Doneta’s favorite pastime was walking in the neighborhood or at the mall, she walked many miles and bragged about every step.  She will be remembered for her “feisty attitude” and strong work ethic.  She believed that hard work could solve any problem.

Those blessed to share in her life include her children Kelli (Lou) Edwardsen, Winnipeg, Manitoba Canada and Dan (Sarah) Sem, Minot, ND; step-daughter Kathy Lee, Burlington; 5 grandchildren Lucas (Tiffany) Sigurdson, Lexi Sigurdson (Diarmuid Madden), Maddy Sem, Maggie Sem, Mahlee Sem; Step-grandchildren, Tonya Allen and PJ Wilkerson; 5 great grandchildren, Aiden, Levon, Edgely, Harlee, and Cillian.  Siblings include Yvonne (John) Goody, Williston, Arvadel Ost, Mandan along with numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Doneta’s Del Nor Drive “family friends” were Vicki Summerfield, Laurie Vibeto, Claudia Roberts, Ida Johnson, and Mona Johnson.

Doneta was preceded in death by her parents, an infant son Gregory, Step-grandson Dustin Lee and husband Ronald.

Interment:  Rosehill Memorial Park, Minot
Visitation: Thursday from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the Thomas Family Funeral Home, Minot.
