James “Jim” Clifford Eggen, 75, Minot, formerly of Lignite, died Tuesday, October 11, 2022 at his home in Minot.

Jim was born May 15, 1947 at Powers Lake, North Dakota the son of Clifford and Marie (Albertson) Eggen. He was raised and educated at Lignite and graduated from Lignite High School in 1965.  He attended the University of North Dakota at Grand Forks where he ran cross country; later his team was inducted into the UND Hall of Fame.

Jim was once married to Linda Bryan of Bowbells. While they were living in Moorhead & Barnsville, MN, he was an Electrolux vacuum salesman.

In 1978 Jim married LaVonne Olson, and they resided in Minot and Williston. They were blessed with 2 children, Adina and Adrian (and Jim’s stepdaughter Missy). Jim was employed in the oil fields of North Dakota, where he worked as a truck driver for Power Fuels, Inc.

In 1986 they moved to Laughlin, NV until 1990 when they moved to Las Vegas, NV. Jim was employed as a casino cage cashier at the Frontier Casino (where he was able to find rare coins, a hobby of his) for many years before moving back home to Minot in 2007 to be closer to his relatives. Until full retirement, Jim was a taxicab driver, where he fully enjoyed meeting and serving people.

Jim was a member of the Lutheran Faith. He loved sports, numbers and math, reading newspapers and music of all kinds, especially live music. He also had a wonderful singing voice himself.

He will be remembered for his kindness and willingness to help others. If someone had a flat tire or car trouble, he always stopped to help. He took food to those who needed it, he drove people around if they needed a ride and always did so without expectation. His generous kind soul will be missed.

His loving family includes his children Adina Eggen, Adrian Eggen and Missy Moore of Vancouver, WA; siblings, Jane (Gary) Nutz, Charles (Kay) Eggen of Minot and Kathy (Steve) Magstadt of O’Fallen, MO; several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Jim was preceded in death by his parents, nephew, Jeff Eggen, and an infant son.
