MaryAnn M. (McCormick) Agnew 85
How does one condense into a few short words, a life so beautifully lived?
Such was the life of our beautiful Mother, MaryAnn who passed away on September 14, 2022.
MaryAnn was one of nine children, born on June 9, 1937, on a farm in Burleigh County, Menoken, North Dakota. When MaryAnn was 17 years old, she met her husband, Bud, and they married on June 18, 1955. They made Menoken their home for over 45 years until Bud’s death in November of 1999. Their humble beginnings included living in a three-room farmhouse without running water, where she carried water to wash dishes, washing endless loads of laundry and bathing five kids.
People who sat at the dinner table were welcomed with grace, respect, and the most amazing meals. Mom was famous for her “au gratin” potatoes that she served each year when we branded calves.
Mom was a person endowed with the exceptional ability to hear a song and sit down at the piano or pick up the guitar or accordion and repeat the chords without a single sheet of music. Mom was also an avid reader; she could get lost in any books she picked up. She loved planting and caring for her flowers, baking, shopping, and spending time with family and friends. Mom was described by some as a sassy but classy woman. Mom tirelessly volunteered hundreds of hours promoting the beef industry where she held numerous positions with the North Dakota Cattlewomen’s Association
As Mom’s health began to decline, she spent her last seven years in assisted living in Bismarck, North Dakota, where she was dearly and tenderly taken care of by the beautiful staff who have given their lives to helping the elderly.
MaryAnn passed from this life into the arms of our loving Father at St. Gabriel’s Assisted Living in Bismarck, North Dakota. Her daughters were at her side when she took her last breath. We find comfort in knowing that it was God himself who held her hand and whispered to her in love “well done, my good and faithful servant – enter into the gates of joy and find the rest you so greatly deserve.”
MaryAnn will be dearly missed by her surviving daughters – Joan (Jon) Pladson, Long Beach, CA; Jan (John) Lang, Menoken, ND; Ardy (Jesse) Pfaff, Menoken, ND; Trish (Paul) Hayes, Georgetown, TX; and Julie Agnew (fiancé Darl Enzminger); grandchildren Cristal (Craig) Larsen; James (Tasha) Kapp; Jesse Pfaff; Ray Pfaff; and many great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
MaryAnn was preceded in death by her husband Milton “Bud” Agnew; parents John and Mary McCormick; sons-in-law John Lang and Jesse Pfaff; granddaughter Lisa (Lang) Wagner; along with numerous siblings, nieces, and nephews.
