Donna Houn

Donna Mae (Schmidt) Houn received her heavenly wings at the age of 62 on Friday, August 26th, 2022, surrounded by family and friends, after a courageous battle against kidney disease.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00AM, Friday, September 2, 2022, at Pro-Cathedral of St. Mary, 825 E. Broadway Ave, Bismarck.

Visitation will be held from 5 to 7:00 PM, Wednesday, August 31, at Parkway Funeral Service, 2330 Tyler Parkway, Bismarck, with a rosary/vigil service starting at 7:00PM.

Donna was born on July 29th, 1960, to Jacob and Cecelia (Fleck) Schmidt in Mandan. She attended Mandan High School and received her GED. She met the love of her life David D. Houn Sr. while working at Bonanza in 1977. They were married at Christ the King Catholic Church in Mandan on September 7th, 1979. Together they raised two children, DeNica and David Jr.

She worked in the food industry for many years. While being the manager at North American Steak Buffet she made many lifelong friendships. Her most prized possessions were her five grandchildren who she enjoyed playing games with, doing art projects with, and literally chasing around. She enjoyed cooking and baking for her family. Donna was known as the Queen of Pinochle, as she could turn any bad hand into a good one.

Donna will be forever missed by her husband of almost 43 years, David D. Houn Sr.; daughter, DeNica (Daren) Malard, Menoken, ND; son, David Jr. (Laura) Houn, Bismarck; grandchildren, Daysha and Dylan Malard, Gavin, Scarlett and Brayden Houn; sister, Delilah Wedmore, Bismarck; brother, Ray (Peggy) Schmidt, Vancouver, WA; brothers-in-law, Larry (Mary) Houn, Alan (Robin) Houn, Tim (Jan) Houn, Mark (Jackie) Houn and Jerry Houn, and many nieces and nephews.

Donna was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Jackie Schmidt; and her father and mother-in-law, Jerome and Ann Houn.

We want to thank all of Donna’s wonderful caretakers over the years from Sanford and Sunset Prospera Community who have provided excellent care for our mother.

We’re going to love and miss you “hon!”
